Nancy Drew Season 1, Episode 16 solved its second of two big mysteries with a baby twist. Ryan doesn’t know the truth yet, but he deserves to.

We started Nancy Drew Season 1 with two murders to solve. Within episodes of each other, the two murders have been solved. But there are new mysteries and problems that have arisen. One of those involves Ryan. Shouldn’t he get to know the truth about the baby?

Caution: There are major spoilers for Nancy Drew Season 1, Episode 16 in this post.

More from Nancy Drew News

Okay, so we started the season believing that we had a murder mystery to solve. It turns out that Lucy wasn’t murdered. She either accidentally fell or she killed herself. Either way, it wasn’t a homicide and when the cops realized that, Carson’s murder trial was brought to an end. You can’t be guilty of murder when it wasn’t murder to begin with.

However, there was another big reveal that came with this. Nancy isn’t a Drew. She’s a Sable-Hudson. And that’s brought up some major questions and complications. One of those complications is Ryan Hudson, who has no idea that Lucy was pregnant with his baby.

Why didn’t Ryan get to know the truth?

Ryan remains in the dark on Nancy Drew. Nobody has told him that Lucy was pregnant. He doesn’t know that Lucy had the baby before her death. Nor does she know that Carson and Katherine Drew raised that baby as their own. It was a way to protect the baby, but it’s not fair on Ryan.

Now, granted, at the time, Ryan was viewed as just another Hudson. But now we know that he loved Lucy. She was the love of his life but their different social statuses meant that they weren’t “right” for each other. The Hudsons didn’t want Ryan with Lucy, so they did everything in their power to get rid of Lucy.

It makes sense that Carson and Katherine would keep such a big secret. Nancy wouldn’t have understood at a young age. In fact, this storyline reminds me of Outlander, which saw Claire and Frank Randall raised Brianna as their own, when really Bree was Claire and Jamie Fraser’s baby. During Outlander Season 5, Episode 5, there’s a moment when Claire explains she never regrets allowing Bree to believe Frank was her father because it wasn’t until she was older (around the same age as Nancy) that Bree would understand.

Of course, Nancy’s upbringing is under different circumstances. Ryan couldn’t know the truth either for safety of Nancy and for his own safety. Who knows what his parents would have done. They could have gone as far as disowning him.

Is it time for Ryan to learn the truth?

Now that Ryan is trying to make a path for himself, isn’t it time that he learns the truth about Lucy and the baby? It’s unfair for him to be kept in the dark.

However, I can understand why Nancy wouldn’t want to tell him right away. She doesn’t just have to deal with the fact her parents aren’t her biological parents. She has to find a way to tell Ryan Hudson that he is her father; that she is the baby he never knew about.

But Ryan is an innocent player in all this. While he’s a Hudson, he didn’t have anything to do with his parents’ actions. At no point did he get a choice in what would happen to Nancy.

It looks like he’s about to find out the truth. He wants to understand why Nancy is the one being haunted by Lucy. It’s only a matter of time before the truth comes out, and it is about time!

How do you think Ryan will react when he learns the truth? What’s next for the Lucy-Nancy-Ryan-Carson storyline? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
