Nancy learned the truth about her parentage during Nancy Drew Season 1, Episode 16. What’s next for her and Carson after the big reveal?

Nancy Drew Season 1, Episode 16 has solved the big mysteries that started the season. However, the secrets are still being revealed, and one of those secrets involved Nancy’s parentage. Now we all have all sorts of questions about what this means for Nancy and Carson’s relationship.

Caution: There are spoilers for Nancy Drew Season 1, Episode 16 in this post.

More from Nancy Drew News

With the big reveal of what happened to Lucy on the night of her death (we can’t call it murder anymore), we also learned that Nancy isn’t actually a Drew. Okay, she technically is as she’s been raised by the Drews and blood doesn’t mean everything, but her biological parents are Lucy Sable and Ryan Hudson.

This is huge for all. It means so much as Nancy is connected to the Hudson family, but what’s more important right now is how this affects her relationship with the man she’s called “Dad” all this time.

Nancy is going to be angry

Naturally, Nancy is going to be angry. She’ll feel betrayed. After all, she’s been lied to all these years.

Of course, the idea of Drew and Katherine telling Nancy when she was younger wasn’t possible. I go back to a conversation in the most recent episode of Outlander, titled “Perpetual Adoration.” Children wouldn’t make sense of the truth. While it’s a lie, it’s better for the child to have a stable environment, which is something Carson and Katherine were able to offer all those years for Nancy.

But that doesn’t stop the understandable and realistic feelings of anger and betrayal right now. Even though Nancy will have the sense to understand that Carson was doing the best thing for her as a baby, she’ll still have those initial feelings of anger. She’ll want to hate her dad for lying to her.

And then she’ll tell herself that she’s being unreasonable, that he did the right thing for her. That will likely make her hate herself for having the negative feelings towards a man who gave up his own life for a child.

We’ve got to remember that Carson and Katherine didn’t have to take the baby in. They could have given the baby up for adoption or taken her to the Hudsons. Maybe even to Lucy’s mom and brother. That would have put Nancy in danger, and they knew better than that.

Things will work out

I think things will end up working out between Carson and Nancy within an episode or two of the season. Let’s be honest; Nancy is emotional at times but she can also be practical. She gets her evidence in order and follows it. However, sometimes she can struggle because of the personal feelings that get in the way.

We’ve already seen something like this in Nancy Drew Season 1. Nancy believed that her dad had murdered Lucy. All the evidence seemed to point in that direction, but a case together helped her realize that there’s no way Carson could have done something like that.

The two managed to have a heart-to-heart. It was the winter finale and an episode that I found to be the strongest of the season up to that point. There have been some excellent episodes since, but this episode made it clear that no matter what, father and daughter will always find their way back to each other.

A bond like that doesn’t just disappear. Nancy will accept that what Carson did was the safest thing at the time and there was no way of telling Nancy right away. Had it not been for the haunting, there wasn’t a need for the truth to come out. After all, Nancy’s life could still be in danger while the Hudsons were around.

The duo we should be worried about is Nancy and Ryan. After all, Ryan needs to find out that he’s a dad and that secret has been kept from him for the last 20 years.
