6. FBI

Number of seasons: 2 (so far)

Starring: Missy Peregrym, Zeeko Zaki, Ebonee Noel, Jeremy Sisto, Sela Ward, Alana De La Garza, John Boyd

What it’s about: When it comes to TV crime dramas, there’s one that you need to check out right now. FBI is set in New York, following a task force that is focused on bringing down some of the most dangerous criminals in the area. At the same time, it’s one of the most inclusive shows on CBS.

There’s now a spin-off FBI: Most Wanted, which is also worth the watch. The spin-off sees the team travel to hunt down the most wanted criminals in the United States. Along the way, there are also discussions of PTSS, Native American history and rights, and much more.

5. SWAT

Number of seasons: 3 (so far)

Starring: Shemar Moore, Alex Russell, Lina Esco, Kenny Johnson, Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Stephanie Sigman

What it’s about: This is one of the TV crime dramas that is a reboot of something from decades earlier. In this case, it’s a reboot of a movie, which focuses on the SWAT team part of the LAPD. Shemar Moore’s Hondo leads the team as they take on some of the most dangerous criminals in the city.

This is a more standard procedural than others on the list. There’s more focus on the cases of the week instead of multi-episode storylines. However, there is also plenty of room for character development within the stories.
