NCIS and the 10 TV crime dramas to watch on CBS All Access
2. CSI
Number of seasons: 15
Starring: George Eads, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hall, Paul Guilfoyle, Jorja Fox, David Berman, Marg Helgenberger, Wallace Langham, William Petersen, Gary Dourdan
What it’s about: When it comes to the TV crime dramas that started it all, there’s no doubt that CSI has to be on the list. It’s available to stream in full on CBS All Access, seeing how the team got started to how it developed over the years.
The show brought in a new side to the investigation. It wasn’t just about the police doing their jobs, but about the forensic science that goes into the story and the analysis that goes into a crime scene to work out who the murderer is. And, throughout the 15 seasons, we got to see how events would take their toll on the individual members.
There are multiple spin-offs. CSI: Miami is definitely on CBS All Access. CSI: New York and CSI: Cyber don’t seem to be on the service right now.
1. NCIS
Number of seasons: 17 (so far)
Starring: Mark Harmon, David McCallum, Sean Murray, Pauley Perrette, Michael Weatherly, Brian Dietzen, Rocky Carroll, Cote de Pablo
What it’s about: There are certainly some TV crime dramas that will live in our minds longer than others. CSI is one of them and now NCIS is definitely another. While CSI gave us a look at forensics, NCIS gave us a look at Naval investigations; how they work on their own. We’ve had a chance to see how some of the most peculiar cases have developed.
Like FBI and CSI, this is a show that has developed some excellent spinoffs. In fact, it’s a spin-off in itself of JAG. NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans are definitely two TV crime dramas you need to check out right away. LA will give you more of a procedural element while New Orleans offers a bit more of the supernatural and connection to the voodoo practices of the city.
