4. Life on Mars

Before he was The Master on Doctor Who, John Simm was a police detective from Manchester. Initially set in the present day, DI Sam Tyler is involved in a car accident. Suddenly, he wakes up in the 1970s. He has to figure out how to live in the past, while also working out a way to get back to his own time.

While doing that, Sam needs to get onboard with detective work in the 1970s. He works closely with DI Gene Hunt, who is certainly a detective of his time. The spin-off Ashes to Ashes is also worth checking out.

There’s some great news for Life on Mars fans. Co-creator Matthew Graham is looking to bring the show back for a third and final season to wrap up some of those questions, according to The Guardian.

3. Father Brown

If you love period TV crime dramas, Father Brown is the one to check out. Harry Potter‘s Mark Wright stars as the titular character, a Catholic priest who has the knack to solve mysteries. Of course, he is better at solving the crimes than the police, which helps him gain a reputation in the village.

What’s so great about Father Brown is that he doesn’t want to solve the crimes for the police. He wants to make sure the murderers have the chance to repent for their crimes. He’s more interested in their eternal souls.
