While we’re waiting for Chenford to happen, let’s look at just how adorable Nolan and Grace are on The Rookie. They are just right for each other.

Nolan has had a few girlfriends on The Rookie since the beginning, including his own rookie colleague, Lucy Chen. However, there’s just something different about Nolan and Grace that makes them the most adorable couple on the show. Well, most adorable until Chenford finally happens.

Grace and Nolan really are perfect for each other. Let’s hope the writers agree and Ali Larter becomes a series regular on the series should it be renewed. And a renewal is looking highly likely at this point. Her becoming a series regular on The Rookie Season 3 will definitely instil me with a little more confidence about this relationship.

The most recent episode, titled “The Overnight,” was proof that the two are adorable and just right for each other. At no point did they fully question where they were in their relationship. There was a second of doubt, but their guts told them that they are in the same place.

What was great was that Grace opened up about her past relationship. While she and her ex aren’t getting back together, they’ve not gone through the divorce proceedings just yet. Out of everyone, this is something Nolan should understand. After all, he and his wife stayed together purely for their son. The minute he went off to college, his wife started divorce proceedings.

He knows what it’s like to be in a relationship but not really be in it. He knows what it’s like to hesitate over an official ending. By the end of the recent episode, he didn’t once push Grace for her to start divorce proceedings. He wants her to be comfortable with it and trusts that it will happen.

The two have come a long way since they ran into each other decades after Nolan left a note to break up with her. Many women wouldn’t have given him a second chance after the way Nolan broke up with Grace, but she saw he was a changed man. They had both grown because of everything that happened, and now they’re in a stronger place personally to be together. Their individual experiences have made them ready to try again.

And let’s not forget that when Nolan needed immediate medical help, Grace was the one he called. She talked him through removing a bullet wound and helped him try to save the life of the man who had abducted Lucy and buried her alive. At no point did she tell him to call an ambulance. She understood that this was a life or death situation.

He trusted her to help at that moment. And she gave him the help he needed. It didn’t work out and the man died anyway, but Nolan and Grace knew that neither were to blame. Fortunately, Lucy was found so we didn’t need to see what could have been, but that experience brought them even closer together.

Honestly, The Rookie writers, you’ve got a great thing here. We need more of these after-divorce relationships. Remind us that single parents with grown-up kids can have passionate relationships but that they can also be absolutely adorable together.
