Oh dear! Malcolm is in a sticky situation and may not be able to get out of it. Could Malcolm be the killer or is he being set up on Prodigal Son?

Prodigal Son returned from a three-week break with an outstanding episode that continues to keep us on our toes. Now our big worry is that Malcolm is a killer—or, more likely, he’s being set up by a certain villain.

Caution: There are spoilers from Prodigal Son‘s April 20 episode in this post. You can catch up on Hulu if you need to.

Let’s start by saying that I don’t think Malcolm is the killer. While there were questions at the start of the season about whether he was the one to kill the Girl in the Box, he wouldn’t have been stupid enough to kill a guy in hospital with a police guard outside. Malcolm went to see the guy to talk.

There are a few things that suggest that Malcolm is being set up. The biggest is that Nicholas Endicott knows that Martin has talked. Endicott always made it clear that he would go after the entire Whitly family if he needed to. And there’s no reason we should doubt his word.

Endicott likely has someone in the police force on his books. That would allow Endicott to find out that Malcolm did visit Eddie—his guard at Claremont—and put a plan in motion to get Malcolm arrested.

The arrest was a little over the top. Surely Gil, Dani, and JT know that Malcolm wouldn’t have killed Eddie. He made it clear that he wanted Eddie to talk. He wants to find a way to bring Endicott down. But I guess it adds to the drama.

However, there’s something that stands out that may be able to save Malcolm. Gil said that Eddie had Malcolm’s DNA under his nails. That would suggest wounds, but Malcolm would be able to show no wounds that would match something like that, right? Surely that would quickly point out a flaw in the DNA to suggest that it was all planted.

Of course, all of this could end up being some sort of plot by the NYPD. Maybe Gil and the team went in all guns blazing to make it look like they believe Malcolm could be guilty. It plays along with Endicott’s game until there is evidence to prove that Endicott is involved. Until then, we have to see the Whitlys get dragged through the mud again, and this time not because they’ve done it.

There’s only one episode left of the season. There were supposed to be two more afterward but they couldn’t be filmed in time. That means we’re not likely to get answers in the Prodigal Son Season 1 finale. We need a second season pronto.

Prodigal Son Season 1 finale airs on April 27 at 9/8c on FOX.
