Throughout The Rookie Season 2 finale, Nolan needed to find a way to prove that Nick Armstrong was a dirty cop. Harper seems to be on his side and started to help him, but Nolan ended up putting himself in some serious trouble. By hiding a few things from Harper after heading to the prison to get a few answers from there, he snuck into Armstrong’s house for some evidence.
Of course, Armstrong is a seasoned detective. He knew that Nolan was onto him, so he decided to plant some evidence against Nolan. It looks like Nolan is now another dirty rookie. The only person who knows Nolan was onto Armstrong was Harper, but she’s been lied to at the end. It wouldn’t be surprising if Harper started to second guess her partner.
Things are stacking up against Nolan. His house is surrounded by cops with planted evidence. And Nolan is trapped inside with that evidence. It looks like he’s going down for something he didn’t do. The only person who can definitely say that Nolan isn’t a dirty cop is someone in prison—and her word isn’t that great!
So, is there any hope for Nolan? While he has friends, they’ll all see the evidence and start second-guessing his actions of the past. They’ll wonder whether there were times that he seemed like he could be a dirty cop. And we know that the missing weapon could be used against him.
The Rookie Season 2 was cut short by two episodes. The abrupt ending does work as a great cliffhanger for a season finale, but I get the feeling that wasn’t going to be the case. I have a feeling Nolan was going to be arrested and have to prove his innocence over the next two episodes before the truth about Armstrong finally came out in full.
Now that the storyline is going into the third season, there’s the chance to pull this storyline out for a little longer. There’s a chance to create more doubt for Nolan’s friends and a chance to stretch out Armstrong’s dealings. Considering Nolan is the lead character, there has to be hope, but it’s not going to be easy to come by.
