Ziva David immediately proved her worth on NCIS Season 3

It was always going to be hard to welcome a new character on NCIS. For two seasons, we’d come to know and love the core group, and losing Kate the way we did made many fans angry. However, Ziva David quickly stole the show.

When initially introduced, we didn’t know if we could trust her. However, she proved that she was on Gibbs’s side, and she did things that she didn’t necessarily want to do. While Gibbs didn’t initially want her on the team, she gained a place in his heart almost immediately.

The complete opposite to Kate

One of the benefits for Ziva was that she was nothing like Kate. This wasn’t the show’s attempts to give us another Caitlin Todd. The writers didn’t try to just replace the character that we’d lost and had to grieve. Instead, we got a completely different character, with a different personality to get used to.

Ziva had a lot to learn about the world of the United States. She was used to being a little reckless and was still trying to get used to driving on the U.S. side of the road. And let’s not forget her attempts to use metaphors and completely get them wrong.

Many of these parts of her character would continue into later seasons. When Ziva returned after we thought she was dead, we still got the woman who tried to understand U.S. phrases but couldn’t get them right.

NCIS gave us someone exciting

There’s no doubt that Ziva’s character was a change of pace. While Kate was an excellent agent, there was something exciting and thrilling about Ziva. However, she had to tone it down if she wanted to remain safe and part of the team.

That’s what she did. While she never really changed who she was, she made an effort to fit in. She made an effort to be part of the team. Yet, we still got that exciting character that took us on a ride from her introduction on NCIS Season 3.

She consistently proved herself as a good agent. Always looking out for clues, she made it clear that she was (and still is) a vital member of the team.

While it’s hard to pinpoint a turning point, by the end of the season Ziva was clearly a member of this family. When Gibbs was injured and suffered memory loss, Ziva initially appeared unfazed. But in the hospital, when she was alone with Gibbs, her true feelings showed. There was this raw emotion that made it clear this character had to stay.
