NCIS season 17 DVD details

This box set consists of five discs that contain all 22 episodes from the most recent season. The season starts with Ziva David (former series star Cote de Pablo) coming back in “Out of the Darkness,” and she appears on a recurring basis in the rest of the season.

The guest stars in this season include a number of folks well-known to those of us who grew up watching TV in the 90’s, including Patrick Duffy (Step by Step, Dallas) and Daphne Zuniga (Melrose Place). Plus, series star Rocky Carroll directs multiple episodes.

If you’ve been watching the show for the past 16 seasons, you know what to expect here from a content perspective. Technically speaking, it leaves a little to be desired, especially considering the broad appeal of the show.

English is the only language supported, both in terms of audio and subtitles. That means if English is not your first language, you’re out of luck here. At least, though, there are those captions for the viewers who may be hard of hearing. Video is widescreen, as usual.

NCIS season 17 DVD special features

The bulk of the bonuses for NCIS season 17 focus on guest stars. It’s no shocker that Cote de Pablo gets her own featurette, appropriately entitled “The Return of Ziva David,” since her return to the show was a huge part of the season.

But there’s another one for season finale guest star Christopher Lloyd, too, called “Hallowed Ground.”

The other two featurettes are a general season behind-the-scenes piece (“Inside Season 17”) and one that focuses on the episode “Ephemera” (called “Other Times, Other Lives”). And that’s it—no deleted or extended scenes, commentaries, or gag reel.

The bonuses are fine if you’re a Ziva fan or interested in Lloyd’s guest spot, but NCIS has done better with their special features in earlier seasons.
