It was not easy to pick an MVP for NCIS Season 8
NCIS Season 8 has some great episodes. All characters had some time in the limelight. This was also the season that saw Jimmy Palmer get much more time in the spotlight.
Picking an MVP for the season was not easy. In the end, there are two episodes that stand out, making Gibbs the MVP of the season.

I will say that Tony DiNozzo gets a special mention. This is the season where we see him and his dad try to work on a case together, despite DiNozzo Sr. not being an agent. The two have to put their differences aside. We also get to know more about DiNozzo’s time before NCIS, when he worked as a cop.
However, it all comes down to Gibbs’s moments at the end of the season.

Gibbs gave a friend a funeral he deserved
Let’s face it, we were all heartbroken when Mike Franks was killed. He’d only been in a handful of episodes, but he was so important to Gibbs. We felt the loss through Mark Harmon, which is just the start of why Gibbs is the MVP of the season.
Despite the grief, Gibbs worked through the case. He had to when he found out Ziva was in danger after being led into a trap. The whole team was put at risk, and Gibbs wasn’t willing to let someone else die.
He and Vance worked together to make sure Franks’s killer was taken down. Maybe they would have preferred the justice system to play out, but in the end, both knew that killing Jonas Cobb was the only option.
Then we come to the very end of the season. With all the woodwork that Gibbs does, it shouldn’t surprise us that he would make a friend a coffin. This was his way of giving his friend the funeral deserved. It was Gibbs’s way of saying goodbye, although we do know that he speaks to the dead now and again on NCIS. I’m still unsure if that’s something we should be worried about or not.
Gibbs had gained a lot of character development up to this point. He was always a hard nut to crack, but it got to about Seasons 7 and 8 when he softened up a lot. This moment at the end of NCIS Season 8 could have led to him closing off again, but he showed off his softness and kindheartedness.
