Chicago PD Season 8 filming will hopefully start in September
When will Chicago PD Season 8 start filming for its fall premiere?
Our eyes are certainly on when our favorite TV crime dramas will start filming again. Most shows would have started in July for a fall date, but that hasn’t been the case for most. When will Chicago PD Season 8 start filming, and what does that date mean for a return?
Tentative dates have been set by a variety of studios recently. Project Casting shares that the plan for the One Chicago shows is to start filming at the end of September, with Sept. 21 and 22 as projected dates.

Of course, these dates aren’t set in stone. Like with the L.A. shows such as NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles, there is a chance that the shows could be pushed back into October. It all depends on the coronavirus numbers in Chicago when the tentative Chicago PD Season 8 filming date arrives.
What does the delayed filming mean for the fall schedule?
NBC opted to follow CBS’s plan of bringing its fall slate as usual. The CW and FOX opted for a pandemic-proof slate, pushing its usual fall shows to the new year. It looks like with the delay to filming, The CW and FOX may have played it right.
Sadly, filming wasn’t able to start in July, which would be needed for a late September premiere. With a late September start filming start, we’re looking at November or December as a premiere date at the earliest. NBC may push things to the new year.
What to expect in Chicago PD Season 8
The Chicago PD Season 7 finale (which was not the intended one, but works as an intense cliffhanger) left us with many questions about Atwater. He decided not to just go along with the systemic racism within the police department and shared what really happened on a call.
It’s led to Tommy Doyle’s colleagues ready to avenge his name. Atwater is in a lot of danger now, with cops all over the city angry at his actions. Voight has Atwater’s back (and so will the whole of Intelligence) but is it safe for Atwater in Chicago?
Chicago PD now has a chance to fully delve into systemic racism within the police department. It’s something that has been mentioned here and then but never been given the attention it fully needs and deserves. The writers need to do this right.
