The Rookie Season 3 doesn’t have a premiere date just yet

There’s no premiere date for The Rookie Season 3 yet

Don’t believe everything you read online. That’s something The Rookie fans had to remember at the weekend.

A rumor spread that The Rookie Season 3 would premiere on Oct. 16, 2020. We did some digging, especially since ABC is still to release its premiere dates for the fall season. It turns out this date isn’t right.

Well, at least, not for now. And it probably isn’t going to be correct.

The Rookie Season 3 still hasn’t started filming

There are no reports about The Rookie filming its third season just yet. The show is one of those that films in L.A. While production studios are able to look at returning to filming, nothing from the big networks has started up just yet. NCIS and NCIS: LA are looking at the start of September, but we’re still waiting to hear about all the other shows that film in the same area.

Until The Rookie is able to start filming some episodes, ABC is not likely to set a premiere date. It doesn’t make sense to put that sort of pressure on the cast and crew of the show. Plus, if the date is missed due to being unable to film fully, fans will be disappointed. It’s better to leave the dates unknown for now.

And that’s what ABC is doing. We don’t know when the Nathan Fillion dramedy will return.

The problem with the date shared

Oct. 16, 2020 doesn’t make sense as a date, anyway. That’s a Friday.

The Rookie Season 3 is already slated to return on Sundays at 10/9c on ABC. It’s a timeslot that worked extremely well for the series throughout Season 2, so it makes sense for ABC to keep it on the same night. Fridays are usually left open for struggling shows.

There’s no need for ABC to change its plans just yet, especially moving TV shows to other nights.

Where does the date come from? It’s possibly from misreading a post or two. The Rookie Season 1 premiered on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018. It’s an easy mistake to make.

For now, though, there is no date. We’ll keep an eye on a premiere date and let you know once we know.

The Rookie Season 3 is set to air Sundays at 10/9c on ABC. When it does return, you’ll be able to watch the following day on Hulu.
