SWAT Season 4, Episode 4: Deacon proves himself in the only way possible
Deacon has to prove himself on SWAT Season 4, Episode 4
SWAT Season 4, Episode 4 touches on another topical subject, this time with Deacon facing an attack. It’s not a physical attack, but one on his character. There’s only one way for him to prove himself during the episode.
The episode starts with SWAT getting ready to act as security at the memorial of a singer. Darryl points out the irony of it considering the singer spoke out against police brutality and was for the Defund the Police movement.

The Defund the Police movement and those speaking out about police brutality don’t bother him because they are right in a lot of cases. He knows that he is not like the bad cops, and he ensures his SWAT officers hold the same values.
And this immediately says a lot about Deacon. Hondo knows Deacon isn’t a bad cop, but only Deacon can prove himself when the late singer’s mother has a bad opinion about him. After all, he did refuse to provide the singer security with his private firm because of her speeches supporting the Defund the Police movement.

Only Deacon can prove he’s not a bad cop
Deacon takes the views against him personally on SWAT Season 4, Episode 4. That’s understandable. By standing with the police despite the brutality and systemic racism, it looks like he is part of the problem. However, he is a good man. He takes his job seriously and treats everyone with respect regardless of the color of their skin.
Hondo had some excellent advice. Deacon needs to prove himself by doing his job right.
However, he doesn’t just prove himself that way. He also listens. At one point, he asks what happened to the young singer to make her so angry against the cops. There’s always a moment.
That moment was from the past. Deacon doesn’t judge. He tries to empathize, but he simply can’t. He doesn’t have the “wrong” color of skin. His kids will never be the victims of systemic racism because they’re white.
Deacon doesn’t try to find a way to understand. He simply accepts that he can’t, but takes the story to heart. He knows that he has to do better, that those he trains have to do better.
And so, he does his job and proves that he’s one of the good ones. It’s all he can do. Actions speak louder than words. Now he just needs to focus on doing the right thing every time and train others to be better.
SWAT will return with all-new episodes on Dec. 9 at 10/9c on CBS.
