NCIS Season 18, Episode 3 brought us a thrilling treasure hunt

After taking a week off, NCIS returned with a treasure hunt. The whole team worked together to find the treasure’s location, but mostly as a way to solve the case. It’s time to break down the events from NCIS Season 18, Episode 3.

There were certainly some major WTF moments throughout the episode, and not all involving the treasure hunt. Here’s a look at the biggest moments from “Blood & Treasure.”

McGee’s knowledge of treasure hunting laws

More from NCIS News

When a petty officer is found dead, the team are pulled onto the case to investigate. It soon transpires that the petty officer was killed because of a treasure map.

Should NCIS find the money and it not be evidence, the team will be allowed to keep the money. Of course, McGee knows that law without looking it up. The question is why. Is this because it’s interesting or because it’s been used in one of his books (or could it be used in a future novel)?

I think this is a good time to remember that McGee wrote mystery novels, and he needs to write another one!

Treasure maps and lack of facial recognition for trees

Sticking with the treasure hunt on NCIS Season 18, Episode 3, we find out that maps are like fingerprints. No two maps are the same, which helps Kasie to figure out the location.

After talking to Angus DeMint, who set up the treasure hunt in the first place, and reading his book, it turns out the location has been in front of everyone the whole time. Getting the exact location isn’t easy as there’s no facial recognition for trees. Maybe someone should get onto creating that to help Kasie the next time.

DeMint doesn’t exactly want to help the team, though. It’s only when his daughter is at risk that he decides to do it.

Not the expected bad guy

Margot is taken by the person who actually killed the petty officer. No, Margot was not in on the murder the whole time despite it seeming like it for a long time. Nor were the petty officer’s friends in on it.

It turned out to be the guy behind the counter at the indoor rock climbing center. He was in a huge amount of debt and wanted the money, so killed the petty officer for the information. I didn’t see that coming either!

DeMint gave the guy a false location on Gibbs’s orders. That led Margot to morse code that said to “duck.” She did, just as Gibbs shot the bad guy in the arm.

In the end, DeMint and his daughter dug up the treasure and donated it. They realized all they need is each other.

Torres’s bar tab

Throughout NCIS Season 18, Episode 3, Torres was getting calls from the bar about a tab that needing paying. He hadn’t been drinking that night Gibbs joined everyone in the bar, so how did he end up with a tab?

Well, while everyone else was drinking and suffered a hangover the next day, Torres had paid for a bar photographer to take a very special photo. It had all the main guys, including Gibbs, together and happy.

It was worth the bar tab, although maybe not the food poisoning from the tuna.

Fornell’s new job

Another storyline that happened throughout the episode was Fornell working at a fast-food joint. He was there to figure out why the drug pusher (who had died from an overdose) worked there. Why work there when he made thousands from drugs?

The fast-food joint has to be for something bigger. After he finds the drugs in the freezer, he calls Gibbs. He needs Gibbs to meet him at the drive-thru in two days’ time.

By the time Gibbs gets there, Fornell is missing. He’s been missing for two days.

What’s going on? We won’t get to find out until 2021.

There's only one reason Gibbs would shoot McGee on NCIS. dark. Next
