Everything we know about The Rookie Season 3 premiere date, cast, and more

The Rookie is going to be one of the first shows to return in 2021. It’s time to look at everything we know about The Rookie Season 3 and get ready for the storylines.

First, let’s have a quick reminder of where our characters were left on The Rookie Season 2. Well, more importantly, where Nolan was left. He’s being framed as a dirty cop by Armstrong. We last saw him finding the drugs that had been planted in his house with the cops rolling up.

Meanwhile, Lopez has the support to go for detective, something she’s always wanted. Bradford got the opportunity to move up the career ladder, but it would mean leaving LA. He couldn’t do that, but he didn’t stop his girlfriend moving away so she could go up the career ladder. Harper finally got overnights back with her daughter, slightly thanks to Nolan’s actions.

Let’s dive into what to expect from The Rookie Season 3.

The Rookie Season 3 premiere date

Originally, The Rookie Season 3 was going to be part of the fall lineup. When filming couldn’t happen as expected due to the pandemic, the premiere was pushed to the new year. There isn’t much longer to wait now.

The season will premiere on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021 at 10/9c on ABC. It is keeping the Sunday night slot, which worked out extremely well for it in the 2019-2020 schedule.

It will air the following day on Hulu.

The Rookie Season 3 cast

Of course, Nathan Fillion will return as John Nolan. There’s no way that can’t happen. This show is based on him being a 40-year-old rookie.

The rest of the Season 2 cast will also return. That means, we’ll have the following back:

  • Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper
  • Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez
  • Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey
  • Titus Makin as Jackson West
  • Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen
  • Eric Winter as Tim Bradford

We should also see the following recurring characters:

  • Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers
  • Hrach Titizian as Ruben Derian
  • Dashiell Connery as Angus Nettle

Harold Perrineau will return as Nick Armstrong. He will be an important character to start the season off. After all, Nolan is going to have his work cut out for him to prove Armstrong is the dirty cop.

The Rookie Season 3 trailer

ABC has released a trailer for the new season. It gives us a look at what to expect as soon as the season kicks off. It’s all about clearing Nolan’s name. That is if he has people who are on his side.

The Rookie Season 3 synopsis

There isn’t an official synopsis out for the premiere episode just yet. The focus is going to be on getting Nolan off the hook for something he didn’t do. However, his whole team is going to question whether they can trust him. Is he a dirty cop?

Nolan needs to prove that it was Armstrong, but how can he prove that? Will he have enough people by his side to counter Armstrong’s connections from years in the service?

Throughout The Rookie Season 3, there will also be a focus on police brutality and systemic racism. There is no way the show can avoid such a topic. TV shows have a duty to raise awareness and show the truth even when entertaining.
