Is NCIS: New Orleans Season 8 going to happen at CBS?

It’s still too early to tell if our favorite TV shows will be renewed, but that doesn’t stop us looking at the chances. Is it possible NCIS: New Orleans Season 8 will happen?

There are a lot of things CBS will factor into the decision to renew TV shows. The live TV ratings are certainly important, but they’re not the only consideration. At the same time, CBS will need to consider the pandemic and any chances that filming will be delayed next year because of it.

We only really have access to the live TV ratings to determine if a show will be canceled or renewed. That’s what we’ll look at to help us determine if NCIS: New Orleans Season 8 will happen.

NCIS: New Orleans Season 8 is likely to happen

We’ll admit that the ratings for NCIS: New Orleans Season 7 aren’t the strongest on the network. The show sits in 14th place out of 21 TV shows in the average demo. It’s in 12th place when it comes to the average audience at the time of writing this.

That could often mean the show is closer to being canceled than renewed. However, the series airs on a Sunday. That’s a tough night up against the football on NBC. Madam Secretary had lower ratings on Sundays than NOLA before coming to an end, so there’s no need to worry about NOLA just yet.

It’s been hard to get into the swing of things this season, too. After three episodes, the show went on a two-week break. It then returned for one episode before going on its winter break. There has been more consistency in the past, which has helped with the live TV ratings.

The show is also a good syndicated series. Many other networks air older episodes, and they will continue to air the more recent episodes in time. That’s something CBS will consider before making a final decision.

I do feel like the main thing that will end this series is if either something drastic happens in the ratings or if Scott Bakula decides to step away from the show.

Right now, I do think we’ll see a renewal. That decision won’t likely be made until sometime between March and May 2021, though.

NCIS: New Orleans is available to stream on CBS All Access. New episodes air on Jan. 3 on CBS.
