CBS is looking at another NCIS spin-off series, this time in Hawaii. Could NCIS: Hawaii make it possible to bring some Hawaii Five-0 characters back?
It was certainly disappointing to hear that Hawaii Five-0 was coming to an end after 10 seasons. Some parts of it just didn’t feel all that complete, so it’s not surprising that many fans would like to see the show return. Or maybe just some characters return. After all, some characters’ storylines were wrapped.
Recent talks of NCIS: Hawaii happening could allow some of these characters to return. After all, the two franchises are set in the same universe, which also means Magnum PI and MacGyver are also set in the same universe as the NCIS shows.
This could allow for some of the Hawaii Five-0 characters to come back, giving them more time to wrap up their storylines and make NCIS: Hawaii all the more successful. It’s more like a Hawaii Five-0 revival or spin-off instead of an NCIS one. It wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to make this possible, especially since NCIS: LA has just made Deeks a new agent despite hitting 40.
Will NCIS: Hawaii get an introductory crossover?
When other NCIS spin-offs have happened, they’ve crossed over with the main show. This was the same way the CSI spin-offs were created. They offered a backdoor pilot to gauge interest in the new characters.
When Deadline reported the news about the new Hawaii-based spinoff, it also reported that a crossover backdoor pilot wasn’t likely to happen. This makes Hawaii Five-0 all the more important.
We could get a pilot with some of the Hawaii-based characters, drawing people in that way. Even just one or two setting up a new team would be enough to do that. Then we can get to know new characters to get attached to.
Do you think NCIS: Hawaii should utilize some of the Hawaii Five-0 characters? What do you think about the plans for another spin-off? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
