Will Hetty return to NCIS? Is Hetty leaving NCIS: LA after Season 12?

When a fan-favorite character steps back from shows, there is always concern. It looks like Hetty is leaving NCIS: LA after Season 12, but is that really the case?

For the entire 12th season of NCIS: LA, Hetty has been on some secret mission. She appears now and then through a video call, but there’s always something going on in the background. And she won’t say where she is or what she’s doing.

There’s a chance that this storyline connects to the Katya one. Or maybe it will connect to something that crops up at the very end of the season. There’s just one thing we do know, and that’s the fact we miss Hetty.

NCIS: LA Season 12, Episode 13 made us concerned about Hetty not returning to the team after the mission. Admiral Kilbride told Nell that Hetty isn’t coming back. In fact, she’s had one foot out the door for much longer than Nell has, and Hetty is going to go first if she wants.

Will Hetty return for NCIS: LA Season 13?

Admittedly, we don’t yet know if NCIS: LA Season 13 is going to happen. However, since it wasn’t canceled at the same time as NCIS: New Orleans, we have hope that CBS is just waiting on Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J to sign on for another season.

Assuming they do and the season happens, the question is whether Hetty will return.

The Season 12 storyline has been necessary due to the pandemic. It wasn’t safe for Linda Hunt to film with the rest of the cast, so all her scenes have been filmed on her driveway so she could still be part of the season.

With vaccinations happening, there’s hope that filming could be safer during the summer. This could allow Hunt to return to the set and be part of the team once more. However, Hunt may have also decided that it is time for her to step back from the series in a way that David McCallum did on the main series a few seasons ago.

If Hunt does leave, Hetty will still be an important part of the series through mentions and words. However, it’s not going to be the same.

Whatever happens, we need more time with Hetty before the end of the season. Hopefully, the team will spend some time tracking her down before this season ends. It’s about time!
