Good Sam: How did Sophia Bush’s series premiere perform?

GOOD SAM, starring Sophia Bush and Jason Isaacs, premieres Wednesday, Jan. 5 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), after CSI: VEGAS completes its planned 10-episode first season. GOOD SAM is about Dr. Sam Griffith (Bush), a gifted heart surgeon who excels in her new leadership role as chief of surgery after her renowned boss, Dr. Rob “Griff” Griffith (Isaacs), falls into a coma. When Dr. Griffith wakes up months later, demanding to resume his duties, Sam is tasked with supervising this egotistical expert with a scalpel who never acknowledged her stellar talent. Complicating matters, this caustic and arrogant boss also happens to be her father. As Griff defies Sam’s authority and challenges her medical expertise, the big question becomes whether this father and daughter will ever be able to mend their own relationship as expertly as they heal the hearts of their patients.Pictured L-R: Michael Stahl-David as Dr. Caleb Tucker, Jason Isaacs as Dr. Rob 'Griff' Griffith, Davi Santos as Dr. Joey Costa, Omar Maskati as Dr. Isan Shah , Skye Marshall as Dr. Lex Trulie, and Sophia Bush as Dr. Sam Griffith Photo: Ramona Diaconescu/CBS ©2021 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. Good Sam premiered against Chicago PD last week, bringing is Sophia Bush’s new series. How did it perform in the live ratings? Is there a chance of it being renewed?

With just one episode, it is way too early to consider if Good Sam is going to be renewed or not. CBS will want to see another couple of episodes first. However, we’ll admit that things aren’t looking great.

The medical drama premiered up against Chicago PD. This was likely to try to draw in Bush’s fans from the crime drama over, but that didn’t seem to help. We all know that the Wednesday 10/9c timeslot is a difficult one for any network that isn’t NBC!

Good Sam ratings were the lowest of all CBS shows

We start wih some extremely disappointing news just for the show on CBS. Good Sam held the lowest live ratings across the board on the network. It’s not often that a pilot will perform worse than shows that have been on the air for a few years, but that was the case here.

The total audience for the night was just 2.7 million viewers. The demo rating was a low 0.31. This is behind BullSEAL Team‘s four episodes that aired on CBS, and even CSI: Vegas, which we were worried about.

When up against NBC, CBS will likely want to switch the timeslot or will make a disappointing decision for the series. Chicago PD remains NBC’s fourth-best series in terms of live ratings. Last Wednesday, the winter premiere pulled in 6.06 million viewers and a 0.73 demo rating.

So far, the reviews have been on the positive side. However, this is a series that could end up becoming repetitive. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes over the next few episodes.
