Magnum PI preview: What’s coming in Season 5, Episode 5?

Magnum PI is about to undergo his biggest challenge this week: Running a brand-new episode opposite the Academy Awards.

The NBC revival of the CBS reboot of the private eye show has been doing well, sparked by how Magnum and Higgins are now a couple. It’s brought new energy as the team continues to handle some unique cases.

The last episode had Magnum and Higgins investigating the murder of a CEO, which had Higgins more worried than usual about Magnum. They eventually figured out it was the daughter of the CEO’s partner, upset about her dad having an affair. The man confessed to the murder himself to protect his daughter with Magnum and Higgins decided to let this rest.

Meanwhile, Rick got a visit from his troublemaking younger sister Ruthie, figuring she needed help. It turned out she was getting married to a woman, with Rick surprised not to know about this. Nevertheless, they came together as Rick agreed to walk her down the aisle.

During all this, Magnum was using Gordon to get some info on who might be targeting the team, which is likely to play into this week’s new episode.

It’s a bit surprising Magnum PI has a new episode as this Sunday, March 12 has ABC airing the Academy Awards. But “Welcome to Paradise, Now Die!” looks to have some fun plots and a lighter tone to it.

The main plotline has Magnum and Katsumoto working together to find a missing tourist. The secondary plot is Higgins and Kumu on their own mystery of who killed a dog. The final plot is a funny one as Rick and TC have to find Magnum’s lost mouse. That includes the pair possibly stumbling onto Magnum and Higgins’ secret romance.

This can be a more light-hearted episode than usual for Magnum P.I., yet still enough fun for fans to enjoy.
