Is The Company You Keep canceled (Will there be a Season 2?)
It’s that time of year when the networks make their final decision about shows that are “on the bubble” for renewal. That includes The Company You Keep, so has ABC decided to give this unique crime romance a second season or not? Find out here!
Premiering on Feb. 19, 2023, The Company You Keep focused on Charlie Nicoletti (Milo Ventimiglia), whose family are con artists looking for a big score. They pull off a big one on a mobster, only to have Charlie’s fiancee betray them and steal the money. Charlie meets up with Emma Hill (Catherine Haena Kim), who discovers her boyfriend was cheating on her. The pair enjoy a hot weekend together and soon are in a relationship.
What Charlie doesn’t know is Emma is a CIA officer looking into the very crime syndicate the family ripped off. Soon, the pair are on an unknowing collision course while navigating their romance.
Eventually, the pair find out who the other is and have to balance a strange working relationship as they try to take down the bigger threat of the Maguires and fight their mutual attraction to each other.
The show had a good push by ABC thanks to nabbing Ventimiglia (who also executive produced) off the success of This Is Us. However, its ratings on Sunday nights weren’t quite what the network had hoped for, yet with some buzz, it might be able to survive to build an audience. So has the series earned a renewal?
Is The Company You Keep Season 2 happening?
Sadly for fans, ABC has canceled the series after one season. The series finale did wrap up the main plotline while leaving an opening in case it continued for another year. However, the ratings simply didn’t justify ABC keeping the show on.
Among the factors is the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike delaying the production of numerous shows. Even if The Company You Keep had gotten another season, it might not have been able to premiere until 2024. With the networks tightening their belts, ABC didn’t see the ratings worth giving the show another year.
It’s a disappointment for the fans who stuck through the show this long, but The Company You Keep just played its last con game.
