Is a new episode of True Lies on CBS tonight? (May 24, 2023)
True Lies had a huge two-part Season 1 finale that changed everything for the Tasker family. Was this truly the end of the road, and are new episodes coming on CBS?
Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for the Season 1 finale of True Lies
The two-part True Lies Season 1 finale began with the team once more facing Krypsis, who was about to crack a database of Omega Sector operatives. That had the team working with Max, the teenage hacker they worked with in another episode.
But Harry and Helen were stunned to discover Max was dating their daughter, Dana. They pulled every overbearing parent trick in the book to push a breakup before deciding to let it happen. Meanwhile, Gib went undercover to meet the Krypsis leader Yelena (Annet Mahendru).
Things got complicated when a suspicious Dana showed up at the meet site. The Taskers had no choice but to tell their daughter the truth about their spy lives, with her naturally shocked. A gunfight broke out that had Harry captured by Yelena.
The final episode had Yelena revealing her backstory. She was a little girl in 1994 when an Omega Sector operative killed her father in what was the opening of the original movie. Consumed by revenge, she spent three decades building up Krypsis and finding out everything about Omega Sector to destroy it.
The finale had Jake also brought into the truth about his family. Meanwhile, Harry was drugged for a horrible experience hallucinating his family and friend turning on him. So when the team went to rescue them, Harry tried to fight them off. Luckily, Helen was able to get through to him, and the team escaped.
That seemed a wrap-up as the Taskers were enjoying a night at home with all their secrets out. However, Yelena was shown on the phone telling someone, “It’s time to begin Phase Three.”
So is this the end of True Lies?
Is True Lies truly finished?
Sadly for fans, the confirmation has come that CBS has canceled True Lies after just one season. The series was never a ratings success, and the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike made another year even riskier.
CBS will now be filling Wednesdays with a rotating set of reruns of various other series. It’s a shame, as True Lies did have some appeal, but fans will have to accept there’s no resolution to that ending as the Taskers’ adventures are done.
