Is Kung Fu renewed for Season 4? (Is Kung Fu canceled?)
The CW brought more diversity over recent years, and Kung Fu was one of those shows that managed it. Will there be a fourth season of the series?
When Kung Fu originally premiered, it was to some strong ratings (for The CW). However, the ratings saw a decline over the three seasons, with the third being the worst. Of course, the series also moved from the midseason to the fall, which will have impacted the ratings.
Eyes are on whether the ratings decline were too much. Nexstar made it clear that not many shows from the current slate would be renewed after it took over. What is going on with the gender-swap reboot series?
Is Kung Fu Season 4 going to happen at The CW?
It’s bad news for fans of the supernatural martial arts series. Kung Fu is canceled after just three seasons.
The CW announced the disappointing news in May before the upfronts. The cancellation came at the same time as The Winchesters and Walker Independence. The only two shows to make it through from the current slate so far are Walker and All American with just three currently remaining on the bubble.
Why was the show canceled? This is certainly linked to the ratings as well as the change of direction now that Nexstar has taken over. The CW used to keep renewing shows after the first season until they got to syndication level. This was the plan for the network to make money. Nexstar wants it to make money in its own right, which means better quality shows in terms of the linear ratings. This is the best way to make more via advertisers.
It is disappointing. There aren’t many new shows The CW is bringing into the 2023–2024 season, although some of that is linked to the writers strike.
Kung Fu is available to stream on Max.
