We are more than ready to see more Magnum PI, but does NBC agree? Will there be a sixth season of the series, or has the show been canceled?
When Magnum PI was initially saved by NBC, it was for two seasons. We were meant to get two seasons of 10 episodes each, and it was great news for the fans. Then things changed.
Shortly after, NBC changed its mind on the seasons. Instead, the 20 episodes would make up Season 5 and would be split in two parts. We’re still waiting for the second set of 10 episodes, which is set to arrive at some point in 2024. However, with the show already filmed, it is possible that it will be pulled to fall 2023 as the writers strike continues and halts production of other scripted shows.
Will Magnum PI Season 6 happen at NBC?
So, what about Magnum PI Season 6? Does that mean this season isn’t happening after all? Right now, there isn’t a sixth season. NBC saved the show for 20 episodes, and we’re getting the second set of 10 episodes with Season 5, Part 2, whenever that comes out.
NBC will want to see how the show performs in the linear ratings for the second half of the season. The show saw a decline in the linear ratings compared to CBS’s swan song season. However, NBC didn’t help the linear ratings at all. The PI drama was moved to a Sunday night and was on after reruns instead of a standard show to lead it in.
NBC will want to rethink its schedule if it wants to see the show succeed. Friday nights could work as fans got used to watching the show on Fridays on CBS. An option could be Wednesdays if One Chicago can’t premiere in the fall. Thursdays could also work if Law & Order can’t premiere in the fall. Found could be pulled forward to 9 p.m. ET/PT with Magnum PI airing at 8 p.m. to kick off the night.
Magnum PI is available to stream on Peacock.
