Dark Winds is finally coming back to AMC this July. Check out a trailer and what to expect when the second season of this thrilling crime show returns!

For decades, mystery fans have loved the novels by Tony Hillerman that focus on Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, a pair of police officers who each work on crimes set in a Navajo county in Utah. Hillerman would eventually pair the two up in a highly successful novel series.

In 2022, AMC brought the show to life in a series created by Graham Roland with John Wirth as showrunner. It starred Zahn McClarnon as Leaphorn and Kiowa Gordon as Chee, who worked a complex murder/smuggling case while also facing a possibly supernatural entity.

After its renewal, the series is finally coming back to AMC. So when does it premiere and what is it about?

What is Season 2 of Dark Winds about?

Season 2 jumps ahead a year as Chee is now a private eye. He and Leaphorn reunite when their separate cases bring them in pursuit of the same suspect. Also returning are Sgt. Manuelito (Jessica Matten), Deanna Allison as Emma Leaphorn, and Elva Guerra as Sally Growing as Leaphorn and Chee have to thwart an assassin that could lead to a massacre on the reservation.

New to the cast this year is A Martinez (Longmire) as Valencia County Sheriff Gordo Sena, Jeri Ryan as Rosemary Vines, Nicholas Logan as Colton Wolf and Joseph Runningfox as Joe’s father, Henry.

When does Dark Winds Season 2 premiere?

The Season 2 premiere will be on July 30, 2023. It will air at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the linear AMC channel, but it will stream on AMC+ on the same day as well.

The trailer shows a moody and darker ride for the six-episode second season to show how Dark Winds retains its unique air of mystery to be another top crime show to check out in July.
