Hollywood may be deeply affected by the dual strikes of the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild. However, NBC has announced its fall 2023 schedule, which will include the new drama Found. How is this show able to premiere when so many other series can’t and when does it come out?

Right now, Hollywood is facing a crisis of unprecedented proportions. It began in May when the WGA went on strike over pay and residuals, among other issues. That already promised to delay the fall 2023 TV season with several shows prepared for midseason.

Then in mid-July, the SAG body joined the WGA on strike, meaning all production in Hollywood has ceased. With no word on when either strike is going to end, that leaves networks scrambling to figure out fall schedules.

This leaves NBC in an interesting position as it announced its schedule, which includes pushing many shows to 2024. However, they will have new episodes of some series prepared, including Found.

How is Found able to premiere so quickly?

Found has a huge advantage in the fact that it already had its entire season ready to go before the strikes happened. The series stars Shanola Hampton as a woman who was abducted as a young girl and survived. Now a public relations media manager, she leads a team of investigators to search for missing people ignored by both the police and the public.

Found was originally going to air in February 2023, following NBC’s pickup of Magnum PI. However, the network decided to hold it back until the fall, claiming they felt it was a better time for the series to air.

This turned out to be a savvy move by the network as it means they now have a full 13-episode season to air while other networks are scrambling for any scripted fare. Found will be joined by The Irrational, the second half of Magnum PI’s Season 5, and new episodes of Quantum Leap.

The series is set to premiere Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 10/9c and will stream on Peacock the next day. Thus, being delayed from midseason proved to be a good move as Found now has a better chance of discovering a wider audience in a TV-starved fall landscape.
