It looks like it’s going to be a lonely period for TV viewers coming. With the WGA strike continuing and now the actors joining in, the fall TV pickings are going to be slim, and the dog days of summer are coming. What can fans of TV crime dramas do?

Thankfully, there are still a few scripted shows coming out, and true-crime series can still fill the gap well too. You just need to know where to look.

Here are five TV crime dramas to catch the week of July 24-30, 2023, and close out July with a few more intriguing crime shows for fans!

5 TV crime dramas you need to watch this week

The Hardy Boys

The third and final season of the Hulu adaptation of the classic detective novels looks to be a wild ride. It picks up from the second season finale as Frank is possessed by the spirit of a member of a sinister Cabal while the boys’ mother is revealed to still be alive. That leaves Joe to save his brother with their friends aiding them on a greater mystery.

All eight episodes will drop at once for a quick binge. Expect even more crazy twists and turns to wrap up plotlines and push this unique adaptation of the property to a conclusion that should leave fans gasping for breath.

The Hardy Boys Season 3 premieres on Wednesday, July 26 on Hulu.

Dark Winds

The acclaimed adaptation of the Tony Hillerman novels returns for another season of supernatural-themed mysteries. It picks up from the Season 1 finale as Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), now a private eye, reunited with tribal policeman Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) on a missing persons case that soon gets more complex.

Expect the same mix of Native American lore alongside some gripping crimes as the two lawmen overcome their differences to solve a mystery that could be more inhuman than either suspect.

Dark Winds Season 2 premieres on Sunday, July 30 at 9/8c on AMC and streams on AMC+.

The Lady of Silence: The Mataviejitas Murders

From 1998 to 2005, Mexico was rocked by a series of murders of elderly women. Complicating matters was that Mexico had no experience before with serial killers, so it took a while to realize this was one person. The investigation finally led to the last person anyone suspected: Juana Barraza, a female professional wrestler.

This Netflix documentary examines the case and how Barraza claimed almost forty victims, mostly because police were convinced the killer had to be a man. Exposing the investigation’s weaknesses and a wild twist in the arrest, it’s a story even professional wrestling writers couldn’t create.

The Lady of Silence: The Mataviejitas Murders Premieres on Thursday, July 27 on Netflix.

The Heiress and the Heist

One of the most bizarre crime stories in British history gets a spotlight in this Sundance Now docuseries. Born to wealth and privilege, Bridget Rose Dugdale met Queen Elizabeth II, was a debutante, and looked to have everything. But she decided to rebel against her family, joining the IRA and masterminding the Russborough House heist that stole $90 million worth of artwork.

The series shows what transformed Rose from a debutante to a thief and terrorist, focusing on that heist, the manhunt, and Rose’s arrest and trial. It’s yet another “truth is stranger than fiction” tale to make for a compelling watch.

The Heiress and the Heist Premieres Thursday, July 27 on Sundance Now.

The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango

If you missed it when it premiered in June, here’s another chance to catch what could be the start of another Hallmark Movies & Mysteries series. Hallmark Channel icon Lacey Chabert is a detective assigned to go undercover to investigate the murder of a CEO at a high-stakes ballroom competition. Just one problem: She can’t dance.

Enter Will Kemp as a professional dancer who gives her a crash course as they work the case together. Expect some fun banter and some nice moves as they solve the case and show their teamwork for a delightful light-hearted mystery film.

The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango airs Wednesday, July 26 at 9/8c on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
