Painkiller is the latest series based on a true story to arrive on Netflix. Will there be a second season, or is this another one-and-done at the streamer?

Netflix has a bad habit of canceling shows after just one season. It’s not easy getting into new shows because of it, so you may be put off watching Painkiller until you know if there will be more or not.

The series follows the opioid crisis. The names and businesses in the series are fictional as it is a fictionalized telling of true events. That doesn’t take away from the message within the series as it looks at the reasons for the opioid crisis and what is being done about it.

Will Painkiller Season 2 happen at Netflix?

What are the chances of Netflix renewing the show? This is where we have some bad news. While the series isn’t canceled, it’s not going to get a second season.

The show has been billed as a limited series. That means it was always designed to only be one season. So, if you’re on the fence in case of a cliffhanger, don’t worry about it too much. There isn’t going to be a major cliffhanger as there was never a plan to add another season to it.

Of course, this doesn’t mean there won’t be a second season ever. We’ve seen limited series in the past end up renewed. Just look at Good Omens and Big Little Lies. However, Netflix isn’t in the habit of renewed limited series judging by releases in the past. There’s no need to think we’ll see a change with this show, especially with the current strike action.
