It looks like Split River High School will continue to be Madison Near’s favorite haunt. Fans were thrilled when School Spirits was renewed by Paramount+ for a second season.
Since Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, the renewal was welcome news for fans. But unfortunately, viewers will have their own time in television purgatory while we wait for new episodes.
The writer’s strike has put production on hold for many series. And School Spirits is no different. The series is based on a graphic novel. Maddie, played by actress Peyton List of the show Cobra Kai, had to solve her own murder. She was assisted by other ghosts who died at the school over the years. But Maddie was different than the others. She had no memories of her last day.
That led to a stunning twist that changed everything for Maddie. And her friendships with the ghosts.
When will School Spirits Season 2 come to Paramount+?
You may want to fill out your own notebook, just like Mr. Martin, while you wait. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Season 2 is scheduled to start production sometime in 2024. The creators of School Spirits, Nate Trinrud, and Megan Trinrud, will be returning. Oliver Goldstick is also scheduled to return as showrunner.
The show benefitted from a vigorous social media presence. Peyton has a robust 21 million followers on Instagram so that certainly aided the show’s success. And Paramount+ aggressively marketed the show across a variety of series watched by its target young adult audience.
Since the writers have to work out the storylines before filming can begin, we may not be solving any mysteries at Split River High for a while. With production not set to begin until 2024, viewers won’t be able to catch up with the series until late 2024. And that is a best-case scenario. Unfortunately, the mystery series might not return to our screens until 2025.
School Spirits is available to stream on Paramount+.
