When will Dark Winds Season 3 come to AMC and AMC+?
It’s good news for fans of Dark Winds as the popular crime show will return for a third season. When will you be able to check Dark Winds Season 3 out on AMC and AMC+?
Based on the novels by Tony Hillerman, the series is set in 1970s New Mexico. It focuses on Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), a pair of cops on a Native American reservation. The series explores the pair solving some wide-ranging crimes that sometimes have a mystical edge to them.
The series had a strong Season 2 ending with a terrific finale. There were concerns that a third season could come, but AMC confirmed it in a statement from Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios.

According to Variety, the series has averaged 1.7 million viewers each week on AMC in Nielsen live+3 ratings. It also gets attention for how 90% of the cast and production team is Indigenous.
So it’s great to know Dark Winds is coming back, but when can Season 3 premiere?
When does Dark Winds Season 3 come out?
It appears the series is now eyeing a 2025 premiere date for Dark Winds Season 3. The delays are logical given Hollywood is still being hit by the ongoing writer and actor strikes, meaning production couldn’t begin until early 2024.
It also means it wouldn’t be the summer release date that Seasons 1 & 2 had. There’s no word on the plotline for Season 3, but with two dozen books in the Hillerman series to choose from, the creators shouldn’t have a problem figuring out a storyline.
So, it’s sadly going to be a wait before Dark Winds returns, but it should be worth it to continue this acclaimed drama.
