While a lot of new shows are held for 2024, NBC will bring a couple of new releases. The Irrational starring Jesse L. Martin is one of them.

There aren’t that many scripted shows coming in fall 2023. This has nothing to do with broadcast networks wanting to shake things up, and everything to do with the strike action. While some shows couldn’t film at all, others didn’t get through enough episodes to bring them back in the fall.

However, NBC has a couple of new shows arriving this fall. One of them is Jesse L. Martin’s new series, The Irrational.

It’s not clear just how many episodes there are ready. It’s likely around seven episodes, which would take us to around Thanksgiving, which is when the midseason break usually happens on this network. However, there is going to be a long break for the rest of the season as it was a show caught up in the strike action.

What to expect in The Irrational series premiere

It’s all about the first episode of the series tonight, Monday, Sept. 25. This is a chance to meet the characters and get to know the dynamics in the group. We’ll get to find out more about who Alec Baker, a renowned psychologist who knows that human reactions are anything but rational. He works on figuring out how people will react based on the facts that he knows.

He’s not police, though. He’s a college professor who is called into help with situations. It adds a slightly different dynamic to the likes of Criminal Minds and Mindhunter, where we see some focus on the psychological breakdown of criminals.

Take a look at the synopsis and promo for the first episode:

"Alec Baker is a world-renowned professor of behavioral science who uses his unique understanding of human behavior to help solve high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement and corporations — in ways no one else could imagine."
