What happened to Maddie on Bosch: Legacy Season 2?
Bosch: Legacy just kicked off Season 2 with Bosch frantically searching for his missing daughter Maddie. What happened to her in the two-part Season 2 premiere?
Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for the Bosch: Legacy Season 2 premiere.
The first episode of Bosch: Legacy Season 2, “The Lady Vanishes” opened with a flashback to Maddie coming home when she was attacked by a masked man. They struggled before he knocked her out, then removed his mask to reveal himself as Kurt Dockweiler (Will Chase).
Obviously, Bosch was frantic to find Maddie, ignoring the LAPD warning him to stay out of it. He was worried when he heard a woman was at the morgue, but thankfully, it wasn’t Maddie. Honey said she’d seen a man smoking in Maddie’s courtyard and her description matched Dockweiler.
Surprisingly, Dockweiler turned himself in to an LAPD station, figuring it was only a matter of time before the cops found him anyway. He then had the gall to cut a deal for full immunity for his crimes. His leverage? He had Maddie buried in a coffin in the desert and would only give up her location in exchange for his freedom.
Bosch called in favors from old buddies with Crate and Barrel tracking Dockweiler’s lawyer, James Rafferty, while Mo discovered Dockweiler had set up a video feed to Maddie to prove he had her.
Did Maddie die in Bosch: Legacy Season 2?
This led to Episode 2, “Zzyzx.” Being Bosch’s daughter, Maddie wasn’t just lying in wait but doing her best to break free from her prison. Meanwhile, Bosch pulled a trick to get into the interrogation room with Dockweiler, who mocked Bosch for missing him being under his nose before. Bosch nearly stabbed Dockweiler in the eye before Edgar pulled him off.
Rafferty was revealed as a retired child welfare lawyer, not a criminal attorney. Honey laid out some threats to Rafferty, which was a distraction for Bosch to search his hotel room. He learned Dockweiler had been Adam White, who escaped from a religious cult in the desert as a child.
Luckily, Maddie remembered that during the drive into the desert, she’d seen jets taking off overhead. That made her realize she was near Edwards Air Force Base and she managed to carve a message about it for the camera.
Combined with the knowledge of Dockweiler, Mo was able to narrow down Maddie’s location. Bosch and Honey took a helicopter to the desert and, after some frantic searching, were able to dig up the coffin and save Maddie.
Maddie was at the hospital, dehydrated, but able to make a recovery. Dockweiler’s fate was not revealed, but it’s easy to assume Maddie’s recovery ruins any attempt at a deal and ensures he’ll be facing a long time in prison.
The second episode ended with Maddie leaving the hospital, happy to be with her family and dog as she hoped to recover. While the emotional scars of her ordeal will likely haunt her for a while, at least Maddie is still alive for Bosch: Legacy Season 2.
