You would think that after surviving a cruise ship sinking that Athena Grant-Nash would not want anything to do with the water anytime soon. Well, as it turns out, that is actually not the case. It was announced that there would be a crossover between the 911 and Joshua Jackson’s Dr. Odyssey.
Angela Bassett will join Dr. Odyssey in an episode set to air on Thursday, March 20. In the episode, she will be investigating two passengers who may be interested in robbing the vault on the ship. So we will see her interact with Jackson’s Dr. Max Bankman as he aids her as she investigates.
Athena has bad memories of a cruise in 911
Fans of 911 may remember that in season 7, Athena and her husband Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) survived a cruise ship sinking in the three-part season premiere. With any luck, we might hear some quips from Athena herself about being on another cruise ship in the wake of the disaster she faced not even a year ago at this point.
This is the first time 911 will have a crossover with a show unrelated to the franchise. There was one crossover between 911 and 911: Lone Star during the former’s fourth season and the latter’s second season.
We also saw Athena in a Facetime call with police officer Carlos Reyes and dispatcher Grace Ryder on Lone Star in one episode, so this will likely be similar for Dr. Odyssey, in which only Athena would appear. While we would love to see the rest of the 118 on Dr. Odyssey, we have a feeling they are all done with cruise ships as well.
There's another 911 spin-off coming
It was also announced that a third spin-off of 911 would take place in Nashville, so there is a chance we could eventually see worlds collide again in another crossover. For now, we’ll be interested to see how Athena fits into the world of Dr. Odyssey.
The episode of Dr. Odyssey will see the crew taking part in Casino Week. This will put Athena in her own game as she “raises the stakes in a dangerous game where not everyone will end up with a winning hand.” Is Athena going to play poker? We cannot wait to see how she fares on another cruise ship!
In addition to Jackson, Dr. Odyssey also stars Phillipa Soo, Don Johnson, and Sean Teale.
The midseason premieres of both 911 and Dr. Odyssey will air on Thursday, March 6 at 8/7c. You can catch up on previous episodes on Hulu before both shows return.
