We’ve come to the end of another season of 911: Lone Star. What about a continuation of the series? Will 911: Lone Star season 6 happen?
It was a long wait for season 5. We had to go through an entire TV season without new episodes due to the writers and actors strikes. The series returned in fall 2024, but it was with some bad news. It would only be 12 episodes long.
Then there was more bad news. There isn’t going to be a sixth season.
911: Lone Star season 5 was officially the last
FOX probably wasn’t open about it at first based on the way the story was written and seemed to be rushed. However, 911: Lone Star season 5 was made officially the last. The writers did get some time to craft an ending, albeit disappointing in some regards.
The series finale saw the 126 tackle their biggest threat yet: a nuclear reactor threatening to blow after an asteroid hit it. It looked like some of the 126 wouldn’t make it out alive, but in the end, everyone got a happy ending.
Tommy survived cancer, Owen lived to be able to move to New York for his job, and TK and Carlos were able to adopt Jonah. Then there was Mateo who wasn’t deported, Marjan who ended the series pregnant, and Judd who finally got to become captain of the 126.
Why was 911: Lone Star canceled?
FOX made the decision to end the series due to financial reasons. It had nothing to do with the cast, who was more than happy to continue telling the story. It’s clear that the writers had more ideas to create as well.
The show was one of the more expensive ones. Like 911, it had some big names in the cast, and there were a lot of high-cost scenes to play out. It was from the Disney-owned studio, so FOX didn’t get all the financial cutbacks that it needed to keep the series going. ABC didn’t opt to save this series before cancellation like it did with 911, though.
It’s sad for those who were ready for more. However, there is a potential spin-off in the works, and maybe there could be a way to revisit the world of 911: Lone Star in the future.
911: Lone Star is available to stream in full on Hulu.
