We finally have casting news for the 911 spin-off 911: Nashville. Which famous actor is set to play a lead role in the upcoming series on ABC?
Fans of NCIS: Los Angeles will be excited to know that actor Chris O’Donnell will be joining the third spin-off of the popular ABC franchise 911, just months after the second spinoff, 911: Lone Star, finished its five-year run on FOX. Variety confirmed the casting.
Who will Chris O'Donnell play in 911: Nashville?
O’Donnell will portray a man named Captain Don Sharpe, who is described as not only “rugged,” but also as a rodeo rider. Maybe this means we’ll see him riding a horse on the show? In addition to being a captain of a busy firehouse, he also works with his son.
This is similar to Lone Star’s Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) and his son, TK (Ronen Rubenstein). How this relationship will be different in its own right will remain to be seen, especially since one difference is Sharpe is married rather than divorced. Since it does look like O'Donnell's character is married, we're sure to hear more news about who is set to play his love interest soon.
In addition to being a fire captain, Sharpe is also described as a devoted family man who has some secrets that could be revealed. With this casting news, we’re one step closer to getting more information on what to expect from the series.
911 is still on the bubble at ABC
911 is currently in its eighth season after moving from FOX to ABC for its seventh season. While no news has come about a season 9 renewal, we imagine that ABC would want the flagship series to be on the 2025-2026 television schedule to help boost viewership for Nashville.
The show will be executive produced by Ryan Murphy, alongside Tim Minear, Rashad Raisani, as well as 911 star Angela Bassett. While there don't seem to be any plans for any crossovers anytime soon, we'd be excited to see if some of the 911 characters ended up in Nashville somehow.
O’Donnell is no stranger to franchise shows. He starred on NCIS: Los Angeles as G. Callen from 2009 to the show’s completion in 2023.
With news of his casting, this is sure to bring in viewers who have been fans of O’Donnell over his long history in Hollywood. We’re looking forward to finding out who will be cast as his son, and who else will join the 911 franchise family.
911 is currently airing Thursdays on ABC at 8/7c.
