911 had an exciting episode that not only introduced us once again to Captain Bobby Nash’s (Peter Krause) mother and brother, but it also brought back a character who many were unsure would return. What happened in this exciting episode, which was also directed by cast member Aisha Hinds?
This was Hinds’s first time directing and she did an amazing job. Fans have been so excited to see her debut and she did not disappoint. With so many big things happening in the episode, she did her job with care and precision.
Bobby's estranged mother appears on 911
First up, we got to meet Bobby’s mother, Ann Hutchinson (Lesley Ann Warren), who has been estranged from her son from before his wife Marcy and children died in the fire in Minnesota. Ann considers herself to be a faith healer, but Bobby finds this to be unbelievable.
Plus, his mom has never made an attempt to be in his life, which is proven when it turns out Charlie, his brother, was the one who arranged a meeting between them, along with Athena.
Peter Krause did an amazing job showing Bobby’s feelings regarding his estranged parent, and showing how despite the kind of person his dad could be, Bobby still loved him. But he never got over how his mom didn’t try to be there for him.
While on a call, Bobby learned from a woman whose husband tried to kill her that she always had been in a relationship she couldn’t leave, pondering the life she could have had. It made Bobby realize that the life his mother had was the one she was looking for in an attempt to escape the past she suffered from his dad.
Eventually, Bobby learned his mother was sick with a terminal cancer diagnosis. It lead to the two of them to make amends and it was great to see them come together in a moment of healing.
It was great to see a storyline with Bobby and to learn more about how the people in his life made him who he was. Plus, we also got to see a little bit of the new house he was building with Athena!

Did Buck get back together with Tommy?
The other main storyline involved Buck and his attempts to make a new friend outside of Eddie. He had been having trouble adjusting to living in the house that used to be Eddie’s rental, so Maddie suggested he get out and make friends.
This lead to a hilarious, if cringy exchange with co-worker Ravi Panikkar. It was definitely awkward but the bar outing led them to a familiar face. When Ravi went to get drinks, he saw Tommy Kinard, Buck’s ex-boyfriend and decided to bring him over. Wait, Tommy came back on screen? So much for that exit interview after their break up in “Confessions.”
Personally, I always felt as though the break-up was too premature, especially given that the previous episode, “Masks,” showed Tommy being a doting boyfriend when Buck was injured. So to see that 911 was continuing their storyline was a perfect cap of months of wondering if this was really the end. Considering all of the baking Buck was doing, and even saying in season 8, episode 10 that his life started going downhill after Tommy dumped him, it was only a matter of time before Tommy made his debut.
Even though it was awkward for a few seconds, Buck and Tommy fell into a natural rhythm and they began flirting heavily. Within moments, we saw the two of them eagerly making out in Buck’s new home before spending a wild evening together.
The next morning, things seemed to be going really well and they appeared to be on the verge of reconciliation. However, Tommy mentioned that he no longer had competition and Buck pushed him until he realized he meant Eddie. Tommy thought Buck was into Eddie, which Buck thought was ridiculous. Unfortunately, Buck also inadvertently said something hurtful to Tommy, making it sound like he didn’t have feelings for him.
Tommy clearly has some insecurities to deal with, as even though he wanted to be with Buck, he still thought he was vieying for Buck’s affections. This isn’t true at all, but it’s difficult to see, especially when Buck unwittingly said something hurtful.
Buck realized he was wrong as he spoke with Maddie, but also knew that sleeping with Tommy while hurting over his best friend moving was not the best way to get back together with him. He still wanted to call Tommy, although Maddie suggested he be alone for a little bit.
This is a situation Buck knows all too well, as he always seems to have to be alone to figure out what he wants. However, this could be a good thing in the long run for himself and for his relationship with Tommy. Things were left open-ended here for a reason and Buck indicated he wanted to call Tommy.
Seeing how much the two men still cared about each other and wanted to be together showed just how special this relationship is. They just need to get past the insecurities and miscommunications to really know what the want. Hopefully, Buck will see what he really wants and goes after it, because we want to see Buck happy and Tommy clearly makes him feel so settled that he was able to sleep in his new place for the first time.
The episode also shut down any notion Buck was ever into Eddie. He pointed out to Maddie that people needed to quit assuming he was pining over his best friend, when that wasn’t the case. Buck doesn’t need anyone to tell him what his feelings are and it’s also something Tommy should know too, since he never communicated his own insecurities to Buck and thought he was just a holdover for Eddie.
This is all a misunderstanding and since there was no resolution, it does seem like Buck and Tommy are headed for something pretty special. We just hope that they continue to showcase what a beautiful relationship they could have together.
All in all, this was an incredible episode of 911 and we loved seeing how it came together with Hinds in the director's chair.
