The shocking second part of the 911 contagion event led to a stunning death and a shocking exit for a main cast member. There had been rumors of this ever since leaks appeared online of a possible funeral procession and now this episode confirmed the news of a major death. Let’s go over what happened and what this means for the show moving forward.
Caution: This post contains MAJOR SPOILERS for 911 season 8, episode 15.
In the first part which aired as episode 14 of season 8, the 118 was called to a lab fire housed in a facility doing research into tier 4 viruses, one of which was called the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever. After an explosion led to most of the 118 becoming trapped, with Buck being left on the outside after escaping with a lab assistant.
The FBI showed up to run the investigation, but it was clear they weren’t planning on rescuing the trapped firefighters. Instead, Bobby used coded language with Athena to tell her to let the FBI and the Army find Moira. But she understood immediately and left with Buck so they could investigate on their own.

Did Chimney survive on 911 season 8, episode 15?
With another police officer, they managed to get information on where Moira’s vehicle was once they got crime scene photos that they took to Karen to find out more about how she lived. Karen noticed that Moira had portraits of significant Nobel Lauriets on her wall, showing how much she wanted to be recognized. Buck realized she was doing this so she could get fame for creating a cure to a viral superstrain.
Once they found the vehicle she was using, they discovered she had gone into a Pharmauceutical building to talk a representative into buying her vaccine. Instead, he called the police. As Athena went to make an arrest, Buck kept watch for the army to arrive. At some point, he also made a very important phone call for backup.
While the FBI and the army came after them, Buck, Moira, and Athena caught a ride with Tommy, who returned to help save Chimney. Although he did take a moment to let Buck know that he was also here for him as well, leading to an exchange of glance that made it clear they still cared deeply for one another despite how things had been left.
Unfortunately for Tommy, the army had helicopters on his tail, so he had to make a landing. But when their adversaries arrived, they discovered Athena was not there and she had the antiviral with her.
Athena made it to the lab to give Bobby the antiviral to give to Chimney. Once he was dosed, everyone was brought out, except for Bobby. He stayed where he was, much to a shocked Buck’s surprise.

What happened to Bobby and how will this affect the future of 911?
Bobby’s oxygen line had broken in the explosion, so he had spent the last couple of hours breathing in the air containing the virus. He had managed to help Hen and Ravi keep their oxygen tanks going, and Hen was covered with her jacket to keep her safe from getting the virus. But Bobby spent the entire time treating his team without saying a word.
Buck was heartbroken to realize Bobby was sick and not doing anything to move. Bobby told Buck he loved him and that the team would need him. Reluctantly, Buck rushed off to tell Athena.
In an utterly devastating scene, Bobby said goodbye to the woman he had loved for all these years. He told her he didn’t want to go and that she had made his life worth living. Knowing Bobby was dying in the final few minutes of the show was truly devastating.
There are no words to describe how emotional this ending is for Bobby. He was a character who came from an utterly devastating background and had rebuilt his entire world in Los Angeles. He created lasting bonds with both the old, and new, members of the 118. He became a stepfather to May and Harry when he didn’t think he had a right to be a father again. His bond with Buck was one that fans have loved and cherished the most.
What makes it the most painful was that not everyone on the team was there, showing how unexpected death could be, and that not everyone is able to say their goodbyes. Plus, due to having to be isolated, Hen, Chimney, Ravi, Karen, and Maddie all found out without being able to take care of their loved ones. Tommy had to watch on a monitor as Buck fell apart in the lab, unable to comfort him.
It’s hard to imagine a world without Captain Robert Wade Nash in it. What will the show be like down the road? How does it affect the team members going forward?
Peter Krause brought Bobby Nash to life for eight years on the show. We’re going to miss him so much. But Bobby will live on through the tenacious spirit of the 118 and the family who loved him.
