911 season 8, episode 5 brings laughter and horror for Halloween
911 had an incredible Halloween episode that had some laughs but also filled us with plenty of fear. From a silly plotline regarding Buck to tension and worry in Hen and Karen’s family, there were plenty of emotions to go around for the night.
Buck’s plot line involved his decision to buy what he thought was a dummy for a Halloween Haunt Fest they were having at the firehouse. It was supposed to be a fun haunted house for trick-or-treaters to come through. Unfortunately, the night of spooks turned into real horror when Buck realized his dummy was a mummy.
Even though the incident with the mummy seemed to be over, Buck found himself in some hot water, first when he slipped during a call and dislocated his shoulder. Then, he woke up with boils all over his face.
Luckily, Buck had two important people by his side, although they were both less than helpful. His boyfriend, Tommy, and best friend, Eddie, did their best to convince Buck he was not cursed. But a research binge Buck went on to learn more about the dead guy he accidentally bought led him to believe he was cursed.
Was Buck actually cursed in 911 season 8, episode 5?
Now, despite the fact that Buck was adamant he was cursed, Tommy was an amazing boyfriend to him throughout the episode. He took care of Buck after he hurt his shoulder and since Buck needed to sleep upright to let his arm heal, Tommy slept on the couch so he could stay by his side.
Even when Buck was covered in boils, Tommy was always there for him. It was an important moment to showcase that he was there for him no matter what. We’ve been longing to see Buck in a relationship where it wasn’t just him trying to do all the work and Tommy clearly cares about Buck.
While it isn’t officially confirmed if the boils are because of the curse, Tommy gives Buck an idea on how to get rid of it, if it is real. Buck brings him to the cemetery where Billy Boils, whose real name is William James McCurdy, is buried so he can do a eulogy. In his research, Buck learned that Billy had been abandoned by his friends and Buck wanted to let go of his anger at Billy and let him into his group of friends.
It was a touching gesture and even if Buck wasn’t actually cursed, it proved what kind of person he was to give someone a proper send-off after years of being passed off as a decoration instead of someone in need of a proper burial.
Hen and Karen face every mother's worst nightmare
On the flip side, the episode also showed us the importance of making time for family. Hen had been busy with work and missing out on key moments with her kids, such as trick or treating. It begins to affect her home life and it doesn’t help when she has to work on Halloween.
Denny, Mara, and Jee-Yun went trick-or-treating together, but it didn’t end well. A speeding car ran right into them, with Denny having pushed Mara out of the way so she didn’t get hurt. It was extremely touch and go as the 118 worked to save his life. But when he began experiencing internal bleeding, Hen suggested a blood transfusion on the field so Karen, who had the same blood type as Denny, could save him.
This was such a heartbreakingly well-done scene and we have to give props to Declan Pratt for an incredible job working with his TV moms, Aisha Hinds and Tracie Thoms. However, we would like to formally request that nothing bad happen to the Wilson family for the rest of time!
Honorable Mentions:
- Eddie taking down the Halloween decorations by himself. We absolutely hate seeing Eddie without Christopher. Finding out that Christopher doesn’t want to go trick or treating just makes it even worse.
- Buck went on a research binge to learn more about Billy Boils and the curse. However, we don’t know exactly what caused the boils on his face. Was it a curse?
- Maddie and Chimney were unable to celebrate Halloween with Jee. As much as we adore their relationship with the Wilsons, we need more of this family dynamic as well!
- It looks like Tommy may not be completely folded into the 118 group unit yet, but we are looking forward to how they bring him into Buck’s world more than just with Eddie!
- Speaking of Tommy, can we have more scenes with Tommy and Eddie together because those two may just be the new Bobby and Michael!
- Bobby and Athena telling each other to get home safe? They continue to be iconic!
