A new teaser trailer for 911 season 9 was posted on social media, and of course, it featured something different from what fans were expecting! Despite knowing there would be a call involving a whale, this was a different kind of emergency.
In the teaser seen on the official 911 on ABC Instagram account, the Griffith Observatory is in the main frame, but if you look at the sky, there appear to be meteors flying overhead. The 911 operator takes a call from someone crying out, “The sky is falling!”
Another clip also showed the rebuilt Santa Monica Pier, where someone notices more of the flaming balls of fire traveling through the sky. It’s unknown if this is actually a bunch of meteors or if something else is happening, such as an explosion from a spaceship.
As with the case with previews before 911 season 8, the newest teasers could be hiding a bigger emergency. But for now, the 118 will have to be on the lookout for a sky emergency once they appear again.

What emergencies will befall the 118 on 911 season 9?
When the 118 returns on screen, they will still be in the aftermath of grieving the loss of Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) as they contend with a change in leadership, all while still working to help the city of Los Angeles. Howie “Chimney” Han (Kenny Choi) will be acting captain, a decision that fans have questioned since Bobby was priming Hen Wilson (Aisha Hinds) to take over one day. However, we could see a storyline where Chimney questions if he wants to do this and may eventually hand it over to her in his place.
While we do not know what is going on in the personal lives of the 118, we are looking forward to seeing where everyone is after the events of season 8. Actor Oliver Stark revealed recently in a preview we previously shared that his character, Evan “Buck” Buckley, would have a home of his own after moving out of his previous sublet.
Besides the possible meteors in the sky, the team will also be dealing with an emergency involving a whale. This could be a throwback to a real-life case where a man was nearly swallowed by a whale before being spit out, so to speak. Actor Mark Consuelos will be appearing in a few episodes, as well, so we’re in for some exciting emergencies when 911 returns.
Before the show returns to ABC, you can catch up on all of the previous episodes on Hulu.
