While Based on a True Story season 2 dropped most of the podcast element that made the first season exciting, it still brought us some intriguing storylines and development. There were plenty of twists and turns, and the finale ended with a major cliffhanger.

Now we need to know if there will be more to the story. Eyes are on whether Based on a True Story season 3 will happen or not. Peacock hasn’t announced anything just yet, but that’s not surprising. The second season hasn’t even been out for a month, yet. There is data that needs to be collected.

Annie Weisman wants Based on a True Story season 3

In some good news, those behind the series want to do more. Annie Weisman told TVLine that she wants to do a third season. Right now, she doesn’t even see where the ending of the series is. This is one of those shows that could continue for a while with the wild twists and turns.

"I’d love to tell more story. There continues to be more fascination, and transformation, in the world of crime, and the consumption of crime. So, I feel like there’s more to reflect, more to tell… I don’t see an endpoint yet."

The problem is the streamer. TV shows are never guaranteed the full time to tell the story intended. It can make it harder when there is no clear ending, because it means each season is likely to have a major cliffhanger.

At least knowing the showrunner wants to do more will help with the renewal hopes. If there was no intention of continuing the story, then the questions about Peacock renewing the show would be moot!

Will Peacock renew Based on a True Story?

So, it comes down to the network. Will Peacock renew the show? That all depends on what the uptake has been like for the series?

If the viewership has been strong, there it’s a no-brainer for Peacock to renew it. The networks tend to renew the shows that are popular because they continue making them money. That’s important for streamers as the money comes from the subscriptions rather than the advertising revenue.

I do think Peacock should have released the show in batches instead of all at once, but it has been a great ride. This show is also an easy binge-watch with 30-minute episodes. The shorter episodes will also help to keep the costs down, which helps to increase the chances of a renewal.

We may hear about the series by the end of the year. This helps to keep the wait for a third season to a minimum. That’s essential in the world of streaming.

Based on a True Story is on Peacock.
