At last, fans of Blue Bloods know when the Boston Blue spinoff premieres to keep the legacy of that long-running hit going!
It’s hard to believe that for the first time since 2010, Blue Bloods won’t be airing on CBS this fall. The massively popular cop drama ran an amazing 14 seasons, practically an eternity in today’s TV landscape. Fans simply couldn’t get enough of the Reagan family and their constant fight for justice on the streets, the courtrooms, and the political offices of New York City.
Both fans, the producers, and the cast would have loved for the show to continue, but CBS finally ended it after a 14th season spread across 2024 with the finale in December. There were already reports of a possible spinoff and plenty of ways one could have happened.
It finally did with Boston Blue, which has Donnie Wahlberg taking his Danny Reagan character from New York to Boston. There, he’s partnered with Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), a cop from a very influential Boston PD family. Also included in the cast are Gloria Reuben as Lena’s mother, Mae Silver, Maggie Lawson as half-sister Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters.
The show is one of the big guns for CBS’s fall season and now has a premiere date to look forward to!

When does Boston Blue premiere?
CBS’s new fall TV schedule has been announced, and to no surprise, Boston Blue is moving right into Blue Bloods's old time slot of Fridays at 10 pm. It will premiere on Friday, Oct. 17, following the season 4 premiere of Fire Country and the new spinoff Sheriff Country.
The show has gotten a bit more attention as among the characters is Danny’s son, Sean, who’s a rookie patrolman in Boston. He had been played throughout Blue Bloods’ run by Andrew Terraciano with Andrew’s real-life brother Tony playing on-screen brother Jack. However, Terraciano declined to return as Sean for the spinoff, so Mika Amonsen will be taking over the part.
It’s up in the air how the series will be received. While it’s great to see Danny Reagan back, it seems odd to move this born-and-bred New Yorker to Boston. It’s also sad that the rest of the characters won’t be joining him and it feels more like this was a separate crime drama being developed and Wahlberg was shoehorned in to connect to the Blue Bloods name.
The show does have some promotion and promise, and it could continue as a success. At least fans should circle the calendars for Friday, Oct. 17, to see if Boston Blue can live up to the amazing legacy Blue Bloods left behind.
Boston Blue premieres Friday, Oct. 17 at 10/9c on CBS.
