BritBox is the home of some excellent crime dramas, and there’s a new one that brings a different element of storytelling. Code of Silence shows that people who are often overlooked can be key to a criminal investigation.

Code of Silence follows Alison Brooks (Rose Ayling-Ellis), who is just an everyday Deaf canteen worker. She’s juggling two jobs and is trying her best to support her Deaf mom and make ends meet. Things take a turn when she’s offered a chance to prove that her skills as a lip-reader could end up breaking a case.

For sure, the role as she ends up infiltrating a dangerous criminal gang is exhilarating. Her world is turned upside down, especially as she proves that she’s been underestimated all her life. However, things don’t necessarily work out perfectly for her, as she finds herself drawn to Liam Barlow, one of the suspects. Can she figure out a way to put herself and her life first, or will she choose love?

You can stream Code of Silence in ASL

There is some one exciting element of this release. Due to the storyline involving a Deaf woman and offering an authentic look at life, the series is available to stream in ASL. You can check out the ASL trailer for the series to get an idea of how it will show on streaming.

The series has been praised for its authentic portrayal of the life of a Deaf person. In so many cases, we see that lip-readers understand everything quickly and effortlessly, but that’s not the case. With the trailer itself, you can see how Alison figures out the words that are really being said.
