Gone are the days when everything returns in September. We’re used to the broadcast networks now splitting up their premieres of crime dramas across September and October. That doesn’t mean we like it, but we have to put up with it.
The good news is that September 2025 will still see the return or premiere of some crime dramas. It’s just not as many as we’re used to. Even NBC has a delay on a lot of them!

FOX and ABC for the win with crime dramas in September
ABC has the first scripted drama returning in September 2025, and it’s a crime drama that we have all been waiting for. High Potential season 2 will be back on Tuesday, Sept. 16, airing at 10/9c straight after Dancing with the Stars.
Then we’re waiting for FOX to bring us the next crime drama. You see, while NBC is bringing some dramas back in September, they’re not the crime dramas. So, it’s all about Murder in a Small Town season 2, which premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Don’t worry; Murder in a Small Town won’t clash with High Potential. It will air at 8/7c on FOX, so you don’t have to choose!
We don’t want to forget about The CW. While it’s become a smaller network, it’s still considered a broadcast network, and it will debut Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent season 1 on Wednesday, Sept. 24. It’s going to feel odd with a Law & Order series on Wednesdays and not Thursdays, but this is a smart move.
NBC will bring back Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU on Thursday, Sept. 25. The night will end with Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5, which is available to stream in full on Peacock.

Turn your attention to the streaming platforms instead
That’s all when it comes to the crime dramas in September. The networks are looking at October dates, which will be both a good and bad thing. With all the major networks holding content back for October, it puts everything back as competition with each other, but it does mean shorter breaks on the other side of the winter hiatus.
You will want to turn to the streaming platforms for more crime dramas in September 2025. Her Mother’s Killer season 2 will drop on Netflix on Monday, Sept. 8, according to Deadline. You can also watch The Dead Girls on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Need something in between those? Only Murders in the Building season 5 will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 9 with a couple of episodes, and then we get weekly releases after that.
Reasonable Doubt season 3 is another one to look out for on Hulu, premiering on Thursday, Sept. 18 with two episodes. The rest of the season will air weekly, making sure there is plenty to get through during September.
Finally, it’s all about British crime dramas. Turn your attention to BritBox to end the month, with Silent Witness season 28 dropping at some point during the month, with a yet TBD date.
