Burgess faced the last hurdle to become a detective in Chicago PD season 12, episode 6. Did she pass the tests, and is she the new detective for Intelligence?

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Chicago PD season 12, episode 6.

Let me start by saying I love how supportive Ruzek was at the start of the episode. Burgess was studying for the test, and Ruzek stepped in to help. He pointed out that he has looked into this as well, but that he wants to make sure Burgess gets the promotion since she’s the one sitting the test. Now that is support! He doesn’t care that his fiancée will be higher in rank than him!

Now back to Burgess, yes, she passed the written test. There was no doubt that she would. After all, the promo made it clear that her last hurdle was the ride-along.

Burgess lied to protect Detective Suarez in Chicago PD

Things went hairy during the case for Burgess and her supervisor Detective Suarez. When there was that question about what should happen when in pursuit of a suspect and if there were ever any reasons not to follow protocol, it was clear that this would come up in the episode.

Suarez went off on foot for a suspect, leaving Burgess behind. That led to Burgess being attacked. She was able to fight off the attacker, but that right there was when Burgess should have called Suarez out and explained what really happened.

Instead, she stood up for Suarez.

Now yes, Burgess did get the promotion. However, it didn’t come with good news at first. Suarez explained that Butgess is a good cop, but she’s too nice to go anywhere else. She still thinks like a patrol officer with a sergeant to protect her. She’s better off in Intelligence with that attitude.

Then Suarez explains that Burgess is a lot like she was in the past. She would like to move Burgess to area centra for six months, giving her the chance to learn how to play the game better.

Well, Burgess is up for that. She’s ready to accept this assignment, even though it means leaving a unit she loves.

Voight seemed to support the idea, but the move ended up off the table. Deputy Chief Reid decided to reassign Burgess back to Intelligence. That makes her the new detective for Intelligence, but it’s not something Burgess wants. There’s no chance to fight this, though.

This wasn’t Voight’s request. He explained that he didn’t know why Reid did it, but things don’t come for free. What is the real reason Burgess is being moved back to Intelligence?

It seems like it’s something to do with Voight. When Reid first met Burgess, he clarified that she worked with Voight. So, it’s something to do with the sergeant and not the detective. What trouble is Reid going to cause for Voight, and how will he use Burgess to do it?
