While CBS has most of its slate on hiatus until February, the network isn’t slowing down when it comes to the future of some shows. They had already given out renewals for FBI, Fire Country and freshman shows Sheriff Country and Boston Blue, among others. Now eyes are on the others, including Elsbeth.

For those who have not been keeping up, Elsbeth is a spin-off of the hit shows The Good Wife and The Good Fight. It has Carrie Preston reprising her Emmy Award-winning turn as Elsbeth Tascioni, a quirky but brilliant lawyer.

The show follows Elsbeth becoming a consultant for the NYPD, where her unique mindset allows her to solve murders. The series stands out for how the audience sees who the killer is, then plays on Elsbeth's battle of wits to prove the killer’s guilt.

Will Elsbeth season 4 happen at CBS?

Now, as part of a wave of renewals announced on Thursday, Jan. 22, CBS confirmed that Elsbeth will return for a fourth season in 2026-27. It’s great news for fans of the beloved crime series that’s carved out a nice audience thanks to its wonderful style, amazing leading lady, and bevy of great guest stars.

The series has continued to be a ratings success, with season 3 averaging 3.7 million viewers per episode, according to TV Series Finale. That seems good enough for CBS to continue its run as the series is a dependable Thursday night entry (plus the entire Thursday night lineup has been renewed). It helps that it doesn’t have a large budget with a small regular cast, combined with special guest stars every episode. Depending on who the guest star is, the ratings may pop a bit higher.

It’s a good combination for a show to continue, especially with CBS’s love of procedural dramas. That will serve Elsbeth well as it prepares for the second half of the season, which is a month away.

What’s coming on Elsbeth?

The series is currently on an extended break before it returns on Thursday, Feb. 26. There’s no word yet on the specific schedule, but it is known that guest stars will include Hamish Linklater as a murderous tech guru and J. Smith-Cameron as the brains behind a debutante ball seeking revenge on the man who once jilted her.

The ongoing subplot has Elsbeth romancing New York City mayoral candidate Alec Bloom, who seems a great guy. However, Elsbeth’s son Teddy (Ben Levi Ross) is discovering secrets in the man’s closet that could shake things up. That will leave Elsbeth wondering how she can uncover killers but be blind to someone much closer to her.

At least fans are assured that whatever happens, there’s more fun and mystery to come as Elsbeth will continue for another year!

Elsbeth season 3 returns Thursday, Feb. 26 at 10/9c on CBS.
