The Atwater-focused episode of Chicago PD certainly brought a tough case for Intelligence to get to the bottom of. However, there was one character absent.
As we’ve become used to over the last few years, Intelligence is a team member down now and then due to budget cuts. And that’s not the budget cuts that are mentioned in the One Chicago universe. These are real budget cuts, which have led to actors getting guaranteed minimum episode appearances, and it leads to them missing episodes here and there.
In Chicago PD season 13 episode 5, it was Dante Torres’s turn to be absent. Just why wasn’t he working with his team to get to the bottom of the bombings in Chicago?
Chicago PD didn’t explain Torres’s absence?
Usually, we learn why characters are away from the team with a quick one-liner. However, that didn’t happen in Chicago PD season 13 episode 5. There was no mention of Torres being away, and this could be seen as a good thing.
During Chicago PD season 12, the one-line mentions of Torres being away linked to his ongoing story of his crisis of faith. They were small hints that we should have paid attention to, but they also offered a quick reason for Torres to be away.
In Chicago PD season 13 episode 5, the show decided to just not mention it at all. This could mean that he’s just getting a day off, which would happen in the real police work. If someone had a day off, there wouldn’t usually be a comment about it in the workplace, as there’s no need to keep focusing on why someone isn’t in the office.
Dante Torres is back in Chicago PD season 13 episode 6
I wouldn’t worry too much about Torres not coming back to the show, though. The promo for Chicago PD season 13 episode 6 makes it clear that Torres is back, and he’s getting an episode that’s focused on him.
Torres will find himself pulled into an investigation when a regular errand takes a deadly turn. There’s a conspiracy at the heart of the episode, and that’s sure to draw everyone in to figure it out.
Of course, there are also the ongoing issues that Torres is currently going through with his crisis of faith. In the previous episode that heavily focused on him, he struggled to pray with people in his community, and he’s still dealing with his insomnia. We’re sure to see a lot more of that come up in the new episode.
