When it comes to Intelligence, things are still a little fractured in Chicago PD season 13, episode 2. The team may be back together, but they’re not all on the same page.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Chicago PD season 13, episode 2.

Dante Torres continues to struggle and simply go through the motions of life. During Chicago PD season 12, he shared that he was suffering from insomnia, and the tricks he’s used in the past aren’t working. It’s clear that this is still happening, and we kick off the episode with him boxing late at night just to get exhausted enough to sleep.

Things take a turn when one of his neighbors comes to see him. Brenda’s husband has been taken, and she needs his help. Only, things take a turn that many probably weren’t expecting.

This isn’t the first attack in Chicago PD season 13, episode 2

While Brenda is at Torres’s house, she explains that her husband is at an ATM taking out all the money that he can. She also says that this isn’t the first attack. There have been others, but the police are doing nothing to help.

Well, Torres isn’t going to let this go, and as he calls things into Voight, he heads to the ATM to find Brenda’s husband there taking more money out. He’s attacked by someone as he tries to go up to the husband and ends up dazed and with a deep cut on his arm.

As Torres and Atwater interview people, Torres takes it hard when people tell him that he doesn’t care about his own neighborhood and people. There have been multiple Latinx people being taken, with their bank accounts being emptied, and Brenda’s husband is just the latest one. With this information, Torres heads to Brenda’s house, where she’s on the phone to someone in the bathroom.

Brenda refuses to talk to Torres about anything. She is upset that the police have done nothing about previous abductions, and she no longer has any faith in the police. Torres knows that she won’t help, but he does tail her to see where she’s taking money to. When Brenda refuses to give the money to the man she’s meeting, a struggle breaks out and the man pulls out a gun. Torres reacts and shoots the man, and it looks like Torres isn’t getting answers about Brenda’s husband.

The case goes much deeper than it seems

Since the man is dead, Torres and Burgess head to someone recently attacked in a similar way. This former victim decides to speak out, and it gives the police a location. Unfortunately, they don’t get to the location in time, and Brenda’s husband has already been killed.

It’s a knock to Torres, who has to tell Brenda the horrible news. He’s visibly uncomfortable when she asks him to pray with him, making it clear that he’s suffering from a crisis of faith still. One thing he will do is get answers and catch the guy who organized the whole thing.

When Intelligence gets the driver from the warehouse, Torres goes in to interrogate him, making the driver give a name. I’ll admit that I kind of lost what the whole point of the abduction was at this point. I find Chicago PD struggles with this part of the story a lot of the time. There’s so much buildup, and then we just get a sudden realization that links it all and allows Intelligence to catch the bad guy. And that’s what happens here, with Torres and Atwater arresting the man behind it all on the roof of an apartment building.

Torres opens up to someone in Chicago PD

With the case feeling like a loss, Torres heads back to the bar, where the tattoo artist from earlier in Chicago PD season 13, episode 2 is. She realizes that he’s been picking at his open wound on his arm, and even understands that he’s doing it to feel something. Feeling pain allows to release everything else that he’s feeling.

It looks like Chicago PD is going to go down a self-harm route for Torres. And it looks like the tattoo artists is going to help him do that. She pulls him out of sight of the bar and starts causing pain while kissing him. The mixture of pain and pleasure is what Torres thinks he needs in this moment, and the two end up making out before heading to the bathroom.

Things are sure to get worse before they get better with Torres in Chicago PD. Just how far will his need for pain go, and will it mean he puts his life on the line?

Chicago PD season 13 airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
