After taking an episode off, Kevin Atwater is back in Chicago PD season 13 episode 5. It looks like it’s going to be an episode focused on him and his past.
There isn’t much to work with when it comes to the synopsis and promo for the new episode. This isn’t uncommon, but there’s usually a tease of the personal arc or at least a little of the case. Look at the preview for Chicago PD season 13 episode 4, which made it clear that something from Voight’s past was going to come up.
A targeted attack in Chicago
Instead, the promo for Chicago PD season 13 episode 5 makes it clear that there’s going to be a bombing in Chicago, and it looks like it’s targeted. Burgess was close to the scene when the bomb went off, suggesting that maybe this was an attempt to take out some police officers. It’s not exactly clear whether that is the case, though.
It’s the synopsis that tells us that it’s more focused on Atwater. He will reunite with a friend from the Academy, and it looks like we get a glimpse of her in the promo for the episode. The two are in the streets of Chicago, and it’s clear that there is a bomb that has just gone off.
What I do love in the promo is that we see Atwater shielding Burgess from the bomb. The two have had a close friendship from the start of the series, but it’s been a long time since we’ve really had a chance to see that friendship in recent years. It’s only natural for Atwater to want to protect one of her friends, even if Burgess is capable of protecting herself.
Is Atwater helping elsewhere in Chicago PD season 13 episode 5?
What I am curious about is the uniform that Atwater is wearing. He doesn’t wear a traditional police uniform when working with Intelligence, but we know he’s not being moved from it. When you look at the vest, it’s clear that he has Intelligence written on there.
If he connects with an old friend from the Academy days after the bombing, why is he already in the uniform when he goes to shield Burgess? Is this a second hit that alerts Intelligence to a targeted hit? Is there a first bombing that rocks downtown Chicago that then leads to various members of Intelligence being scattered a little?
