Chicago PD season 13 will air in the fall, but when could NBC set the premiere date?

NBC will bring another season of Chicago PD in fall 2025, but when?

Eyes are on the fall 2025 season, and we know that Chicago PD season 13 will be part of it. NBC is keeping Wednesdays as One Chicago Night, which makes sense considering how popular it is.

Now the question is when the premiere date will be. Just how long do we need to wait for the new season, which we know is going to be a little bit shorter than season 12, although not by too much.

Chicago PD will return in fall 2025

NBC tends to bring shows back in the mid-to-late-September period, and that’s what we can likely expect for Chicago PD season 13. There’s no reason for NBC to change something that’s working. Thinking a date can be a bit trickier to workout, though, as NBC isn’t always that consistent depending on when the “fall” season actually ends up being.

As a rough guide, we’re probably looking at Chicago PD season 13 premiering on Wednesday, Sept. 24. That matches the other seasons, but it could be a week earlier.

I don’t think we’ll see NBC push the premieres into October if there isn’t an outside reason for it. The only time we’ve seen premiere dates pushed out of September is due to the pandemic and strike action, but there is nothing looking like a problem coming up this summer. Just never say “never.”

Chicago PD season 13 will be 1 episode shorter than season 12

In some bad news, there is a reduction in the episode count for Chicago PD season 13. This is what we expected, and the reduction isn’t as short as we initially thought. We’ll get 21 episodes to the season, and this helps to reduce the production costs enough for the series.

By being one episode shorter, though, it will mean an extra break is needed somewhere in the schedule. One of the downsides of starting in September is that there are the usual amount of weeks to fill, as CBS starting later meant that it had a more consistent schedule last year.

The actors of the series will also continue to have their guaranteed minimum episode count contracts, rather than being set for the entire season. It’s unlikely that Chicago PD will see any actors leaving, but only Jason Beghe has signed on for another season as of right now. We’re sure to see others join him, though, as there were no signs of actors wanting to leave at the end of season 12.

Chicago PD season 13 will air on Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC in fall 2025.
